I bought this as something to play with really.
I don't think it can seriously be used for much other than what it states. Maybe in an emergency recharge if all you have is 4 x AA batteries. I just liked the whole concept of a little box which could power something with a usb connection and rechargeable NI-MH batteries. I toyed with it, with a couple of LED nightlights and it works great. It has a little LED light so it can provide a little bit of light if you need it. Given how cheap it is and the novelty it was a fun little device to play around with.

Only Worked for a Few Hours, and Not Well.
UPDATE: Tested with alkaline batteries. After three hours, my 10k mAh power bank was still at 25% charge, and now the light doesn't work. Will be returning this, regretfully. There's a lot to like about this item. It's compact, with an easy-open top. The LED light is bright and steady. And the price is right. That said, it does seem to be a little slow. I tested it with the only two types of batteries I had on hand, a set of Super Heavy Duty ones from a dollar store, and a national brand rechargeable type. Alkaline batteries are strongly recommended by the manufacturer, and I don't doubt they'd yield better results than what I used. But here's what I found: After one hour, the Super Heavy Duty batteries had charged my older Android from 82% to 88%. After an additional hour, it was still there. Thinking the batteries may have died, I pulled and tested them. They were just about 35% depleted. The second test, with branded rechargeables, yielded similar results. After one hour, it charged to 95% from 88%, and wouldn't go any further. Those batteries tested out at around 30% depleted. Things I think would help yield better results: A faster cable, the proper type of battery, and charging a power bank instead of directly charging a phone. I have a few 10-20k mAh banks I'm going to fool with to see if I get better results. The bottom line? It does the job, albeit slowly, and would probably charge a small flip phone more quickly. With a good supply of AA alkalines, it's a good alternative to solar for an emergency tool kit, and worth the $7 I paid. I would buy it again.

Great idea
Novel design, good price, and surprised we haven't seen these sooner. Made it part of my camping and power outage kits so i can use the AA batteries in them as an additional backup. Flashlight is not very good but it's adequate enough and given that it's part of a kit that already has a separate flashlight, I am not overly concerned with it. Think of it as good enough to find a better flashlight in your house to use it.

Use for emergency, only..
Strictly for emergency charging...or have several extra batteries handy. 4 new batteries will not last to make a full charge!! But, size and portability is great! Seems to work pretty good...but, AGAIN, not intended for primary charging !!

Slow to recharge.
For mine to work I had to turn off the phone to recharge. Slow recharge. Did not charge my Motorola 5G 5 when it was turned on.

The emergency back up I wanted!
I have several rechargeable battery back ups, but it's hard to keep them fully charge all the time. It's much easier to keep fresh regular AA batteries around. Now I have a phone charger in my emergency/camping supplies that can run on those batteries. It's good to not need to worry about keeping the phone charged through a power outage.

It doesn't work!
This item is supposed to recharge a telephone or any item with the USB cord. I put in four double a batteries and although the light comes on, it is not recharging any of the items I tried to recharge! So I am going to return it.

It will do for an emergency but it takes an absolute age to recharge a phone

This works.. This is a great product to have in an emergency, if you are out in the wilderness and both your mobile phone and your rechargeable Battery Bank have no power left.. Just pop in 4 AA batteries and charge your mobile phone, easy.. The result I got with my IPhone 16 (which uses a USB A to Lightning connector), using 4 new Duracell Plus batteries in this Battery Operated Phone Charger, my IPhone was charged to 56% from 4% in 5 hours.. It gets you out of trouble, this can be a life saver.. And they are so affordable.. Just keep plenty of AA batteries with you.. Amazon have these batteries with a 10yr shelf life, a great compliment to a life saving situation..
