OCA/OCP Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide (Exams 1Z0-803 & 1Z0-804)

I am 3 years exp Java developer but still found a lot of value and learning while reading this OCP 7 book. Author is awesome and this covers all major fundamental parts till Java 7 and for many concepts shows the history of developments that happened for them and rationale behind it.Really a good buy to cover till Java 7 and if you are thinking we will just buy latest java version books you will miss a great link and foundation while skipping this book.

I made this purchase in 2016...Seems like the authors have really enjoyed writing this book a lot. The topics are very well covered with a lot of puns and jokes to make it a fun study. The quality of the book and pages was perfect when I received it...also got a CD.OCA OCP Java SE 8 by Jeanne Boyarsky is the latest right now. Don't know how good that one is...but Jeanne is part of same team which wrote Java SE 7 as can be seen in one of my photos. They are all great when it comes to java.

Great book, awesome example and explanation .The problem is specifically i came across in Chapter 15 JDBC - where Updating Results topic is given. This topic is not part of exam objective. So it could have been added in appendix or as a bonus or addon material in CD.It is confusing because it is not clear where this topic ends and which part of it are in exam scope.Future reference include only exam objectives in print edition and rest in CD.have not looked into simulator, so have test it out too

Excellent product for OCA JP level 1 examination. To the point explanation of the topics and exam objectives. Very specific description of the topics that don't usually come to your mind while doing Java programming. This is not a book for beginners, one should have enough experience of writing programs. The questions at the end of each chapter makes your brain to a think a lot before arriving at the solution. Around 60 questions covered in the first six chapters which are intended for OCA JP level 1 exam. The book is accompanied with CD which has a software which can be utilized for practicing the mock exams. Two mock exams each consisting of 60 questions gives a comprehensive coverage of the exam objectives. In short, must to have book before going for OCA JP exam.

Well, I have been 14+ experienced and longing to be in technical side and chose Java as I started my IT career s Java Swing developer. As I realized the value for OCA / OCP, I was looking for bit extra training other than traditional Java class sessions.I was suggested this book by Kathy and Berth. I started going thru and believe me, I am not able to keep this out. This is an excellent book. The only pre-requisite is that you should have heard about Java with fair understanding of HelloWorld java experience and basic OOP understanding. Great Book Indeed that motivates to take up the OCA /OCP and more important boost your technical knowledge !Go for it... !Not the least one, Amazon provided the best service by providing the book very next day morning before I woke up after I placed my order around 5 PM in the previous day evening. Some are overpriced

This is good book for beginner as well as experienced professional . It provides a excellent summary at the end of each chapter . Reading the book always takes more effort . I also went through Object Oriented Programming in Java course(free) on Coursera . The online course on Coursera and this guide should be good enough to get you started in Java programming.

Llevo años trabajando con Java y cuando me planteé obtener las certificaciones me bastó con este libro. Está totalmente enfocado a los exámenes.Una cosa que me sirvió mucho es que las pregunto que aparecen y en las que hay varias respuestas posibles, no indican cuántas son correctas, así que en general es más complicado que los exámenes de las certificaciones.

The book did a great job of preparing me for the test. I passed the Java SE 7 Programmer test with 91% in the spring of 2015 . I was trying to get back into programming after teaching the last 22 years, so I didn't have much experience with Java or OOP when I started (OOP was invented after I left programming). I had taught myself the basics the previous summer, but I was really weak in the details of the language and understanding the whole OOP paradigm. I started with the book the previous November. I was a high school teacher so I tried to spend at least 30 min a day (more when possible) studying. I read each chapter twice before I moved to the next chapter. I made note cards for the first chapter but wound up using the two-minute review to study much more than the cards. I wrote lots of small programs with a simple text editor as recommended and found it really helped. The Java Ranch web site was great about answering questions. After I had finished all of the Chapters I printed out the practice tests in the book and took them. I then studied what I did wrong and wrote a lot more small programs.I redid the book practice tests and used them as a study guide again (it had been a few weeks since I took them the first time). I then took the first computer practice test which comes with the book and used it to study and write small programs (you probably see a pattern). I think I did the book tests one more time, studied and then took the second computer test. I studied some more and retook the first computer test, studied and retook the second computer test. I then ordered enthuware tests and thought they were great. I took and studied about three of them and then took the hard test the day before I was scheduled for the real thing.I would recommend Kathy & Bert's book to anyone. I think following up with Mala's book also was a good idea. I wish I had left myself more time to read all of it. Enthuware is great. I do think it should be the last thing you do but allow some time to take all 6. I would take most of a day to take a test and then go over the results. I did them during my spring break and took my test on Friday of spring break. There weren't any questions I said "what are they talking about?". The whole process gave me a much better understanding of OOP and Java. Thanks again for all of your help!

Thoroughly explain everything

Dieses Buch beleuchtet alle relevanten Prüfungsthemen sehr gründlich. Neben den "normalen" Gegebenheiten wird auch auf etliche Tricks eingegangen. Nach jedem Kapitel gibt es eine Kurzzusammenfassung und einen Aufgabenblock zum Selbsttest. Die anschließenden rLösungen werden ebenso ausführlich begründet wie die falschen Antworten. Am Ende hat man sehr viel mehr verstanden und ein Auge für die Feinheiten. Wer hier jede Frage richtig beantwortet, kann ganz beruhigt in die Prüfung gehen.Die Autoren haben eine herrlich lockere und entspannte Art mit dem naturgemäß trockenen Stoff umzugehen. Die eine oder andere selbstironische Bemerkung hat mir doch öfter mal einen Lacher entlockt, was mir bei Fachbüchern nicht oft passiert.Meine anfänglichen Bedenken einen solchen "Schinken" in englisch zu lesen, hatten sich schnell erledigt. Auch mit nicht ganz perfekten Englischkenntnissen ist es gut verständlich und die Prüfung ist ja sowieso in Englisch - also was solls.Neben dem reinen Text liegt eine CD dabei auf der es eine Trainingssoftware gibt, mit der einwenig Prüfungsfeeling aufkommen kann. Auch hier sind die Antworten wieder intensiv begründet.Insgesamt ist die fachliche Qualität sehr gut, auch wenn mir (bisher) 2 Druckfehler aufgefallen sind, die aber letztendlich auch nur zum nochmaligen Lesen und Überprüfen geführt haben und so das Verständnis weiter erhöht haben.Fazit: Absolut empfehlenswert!!!!!
