Nikon 50mm Nikkor F/1.8D AF Prime Lens for DSLR Camera (Black)

I was using 18-55 kit lens & then seeing some photographers I purchased nikor 70-300 lens. Though it is a telephoto zoom lens, still it (70-300) gives a good brokeh effect for portrait photography. After few days I managed to buy this one Nikor 50mm f 1.8D Believe me, It is one of the best lenses in the world. The brokeh is so denser man. Picture quality is crystal clear also it is very much preferable for low light photography. But if you want auto focus in your beginner level cameras like 3000 or 5000 series, keep distance from this lens & go for 1.8G version. It is only for those who loves manual focusing. Have a try. It's the best budget lens for human portraits. Go for it. 5 starts

The Nikon 50mm f1.8 comes in two variants: 50mm f1.8D and 50mm f1.8G. This one is the "D" version which does not have an Autofocus feature. It works in all Nikon DSLRs, but the autofocus would work only in cameras with internal autofocus motor, that is, the D90 series, D7000 series and above. It is not meant for full frame cameras as well. Let me get into a detailed review. The lens is very well designed and feels pretty sturdy. It is well build with a strong plastic body and a metal mount. There is a manual aperture controller as well, with means it works with the older SLR cameras from Nikon. For current DSLRs, it is required to lock in at the maximum aperture. This feature also comes in handy if you are a budget photographer, to take macro images with the use of a lens reversal ring. I personally felt that the focus ring is a bit tighter than on the Canon version of this lens, as I couldn't shoot smooth focus transitions in video. But for stills, it is an astounding lens with brilliant bokeh, sharpness and colour reproduction. The focus has to be carefully adjusted, by looking at the green dot that appears in the lower left of the viewfinder to obtain tack sharp focus.The minimum focusing point is 0.45m, which is decent for a 50mm prime, but a bit less for me, personally. Readily go for it if you're okay with focusing shots manually. However, I wouldn't recommend this lens to a beginner because you would need something more simpler to practise on and improve your photographic skills. For video shooting, go for it if you are confident enough about turning the focus ring smoothly. And believe me, the focus ring goes a long way from 0.45m to infinity! For video shooters, I also recommend a stabilizer because the footage is very shaky at 50mm. Considering overall, this is a wonderful lens, if chosen for the right purpose. This is a beautiful lens. I am a first time DSLR buyer and user - I havent till now touched a DSLR / SLR in my 35 years of life. I bought it along with Nikon D3300 24.2 MP Digital SLR Camera (Black) with 18-55mm VR II Lens Kit with 8GB Card and Camera Bag . I have not even bothered to open the VR AF 18-55 zoom Kit Lens packaging after clicking a few shots with this lens. Its so amazing. It even gives good (meaning very very usable) quality pics at ISO 12800 without flash in aperture priority mode; even with light from a warm white 36 watt tube light without flash. Portraits with this lens makes any body look beautiful and like in movie stills. Because of this lens I haven't even learned how autofocus works . I always use the range-finder in that camera to get a good focus because this lens will not autofocus in D3300 and I dont want autofocus. The only mode in camera i have used for two days since I got the DSLR is Aperture priority. Its really wonderful to zoom-in and zoom-out with your Legs ;) !! Its so engaging and satisfying

I'm using the lens with my D5200. It's an entry level body therefore doens't have inbuilt autofocus motor hence I'm not able to use the autofocus function on the lens. But with manual focus, if done correctly it captures some really great sharp photos. Go for it if you're on low budget. It'd have been better if there were STM, but still no complaints. As a beginner one may face some issues while focusing and keeping the subject in proper focus, but once you learn, you can capture some awesome shots.

Even though its an old model it works. Not very smooth to handle like while fixing in the camera or fine tune the focus. Still I'm satisfied with this product according to what I spend. Recommended for beginners. ( I'm a beginner )

Mi primera experiencia con focales fijas y solo puedo decir que es fantastico! profundidad de campo tremenda a 1.8. Eso si, sirve para camaras de cuerpo motorizado como la D90. En camaras como la D40, D3100, etc necesitas objetivos motorizados (que tengan la referencia AF-S) Si comprases este modelo "D" te funcionaria, pero el enfoque lo tendrias que hacer manual, y de verdad que con la profundidad de campo a 1.8 cuesta bastante enfocar manualmente. La unica pega que he encontrado, pero no es culpa del objetivo, es que en mi D90, al no ser full frame (de sensor grande) hay que multiplicar por 1.4, con lo que a efectos es un 70mm. Ello significa que para sacar retratos de medio cuerpo en casa me tengo que alejar, y segun como no tengo espacio suficiente. Si fuese ahora compraria el mismo pero en 35mm. que realmente equivaldria x1.4 al de 50mm. reales. .... Lo mas seguro que que acabe quedandome los dos! Esto del focal fijo es toda una experiencia! Menudo descubrimiento., es divertidisimo no tener zoom!
