7 Stars, The Original Greek Spirit, 70 cl

If you like Metaxa you'll probably know that there are a few versions - I think at least seven - and I've tried a few. They range in price from just over £20 to well into three figures. The usual versions are 5,7 & 12 stars. The numbers signify the years of aging. Possibly the number of ingredients too. I don't notice a great deal of difference between the 7 & 12 but I'm not keen on the 5 as it's a bit harsher & has less alcohol. If you haven't tried Metaxa before, it's a brandy......but nothing like the French equivalent. Metaxa is very full bodied, rich, mellow & indulgent. Distilled from sun dried grapes, aged in oak barrels & infused with Muscat wine makes for a spicy, fruity & chewy mouthful with hints of chocolate. It's great at any time but, for example, a great alternative brandy at times like Christmas.

Superb brandy for the price, in my opinion it rivals the top Cognacs.

Ordered this for my partner. He’s been going to Greece for nearly 30 years now, loved Metaxa since he first tried it. He never normally buys any at the airport as he’s always to generous buying for others. So thought I’d treat him this Christmas. He took a sip and the enjoyment in his face was worth it. Price is great.
