Product Description This box set includes the entire three series of this classic British comedy. From .co.uk To the Manor Born is another BBC sitcom from the genre's golden age, one that came to dominate the ratings during its initial three series run from 1979-80. Providing Penelope Keith with her first major role after The Good Life, the show focuses on a way of life that now appears hard to comprehend, with storylines concerning hunt balls, village committees and eccentric brigadiers only adding to the dated feel. What provided the programme's key interest, however, was not the terribly quaint Little England setting but the burgeoning relationship between Keith's Audrey Fforbes-Hamilton and Richard De Vere (Peter Bowles), the new owner of Audrey's old home, Grantleigh Manor. It's all very, very English (the show is set in a village called Cricket St Thomas) and the continuing use of farce almost creates a sense of parody: but look beyond the infuriating stereotypes and there is some sharp writing going on, predating the city vs countryside debate by nearly two decades. Penelope Keith is, as ever, fantastic value and while new viewers may simply not get the joke, those after a spot of nostalgia could do far worse. --Phil Udell

A Lovely Gentle Comedy
Some reviewers claim that this is dated but they should first check the date it was made. Even now the actresses and actors, especially Penelope Keith, coupled with the great writing make this a gem well worth watching. I was hooked when it was first shown on TV and will be reaching it soon. Just off to open that yoghurt in the fridge, which I note is also dated!!

I can watch it over and over again
This is still a great series to watch. Penelope Keith is an inspiring actress and I love her quick witted remarks. Peter Bowles makes a great contemporary in the programme too and its good to watch their relationship developing. "Audrey's" friend "Marjory" plays a terrific part in being the underdog. In fact all the actors taking part make this a very enjoyable and relaxing programme to watch- over and over again in my case!

Loved this trip down memory lane
Remember when it was first screened. Now of course a bit dated and can see tthat it was filmed mostly on sets, but still love "the plot", and love Audrey FForbes Hamilton of course........ played to perfection by Penelope Keith Love Mrs Poo............LOL...and of course, love the "Grocer/millionaire". Yes well worth the money, if you bear in mind not to be disappointed that most of it filmed on sets. The cast is brilliant, and it is very enjoyable to this day.

To greatness born
What a slice of nostalgia!Three series of the clash between money and breeding and the 25th anniversary special.I've read some comments about the way of life depicted herein is incomprehensible to us now. Newsflash: apart from the seriously wealthy and aristocracy, we never lived this way!

great for grandma at Christmas
bit dated but good gentle and amusing fun. P Keith has always been posh totty or eye candy (frightful Americanism!) even in old age, and her male side-kick in these skits has always been good value. They don't breed 'em like this any more!
