If you're an avid anime fan, please read!
Not sure if this review is being too harsh or not, but I am an avid anime fan and was just so disappointed by this. The Top Trumps just don't have many of the people you would associate with "anime icons"; there are some characters that deserve their spot in this list (and others which I'm on the fence about), but there are many which just do not deserve to be in here. I also have to question some of the stats for the cards - especially the "Anime Impact" - which ultimately makes me think that, even if there were limitations with which characters could be included due to licensing, whoever created does not know much about the anime industry. Also, there are a few factual errors and other minor things that just show a lack of either knowledge, effort, or both. Let's start with the characters themselves. Who do you think of when you think of anime icons? Maybe Naruto, Luffy, Goku, Light Yagami, LeLouch, the Elric brothers, Eren? Well, of those, only one is in here, being Goku. While we're missing these iconic characters, we have people like Takaki from "5 Centimeters per Second", Gin (NOT Hana) from "Tokyo Godfathers", and, worst of all, Nine from "My Hero Academia the Movie 2: Heroes Rising". Yes, I'm serious. Nine is listed among the top 30 most iconic anime characters of all time. There are also many main characters from iconic films, like Grave of the Fireflies, your name, and Paprika, which I do not fully agree with, because, while the films themselves are iconic, the characters within them are not particularly. My second problem is with the ratings, and like I said, particularly the "Anime Impact". First and foremost, Nine. His anime impact rating is 6 (out of a maximum of 12). For context, this is the same as Shouto (also from MHA), and Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion, and only 1 lower than Vegeta, Rengoku and Major (from Ghost in the Shell). Possibly worse than all this is that among the characters with LOWER impact is Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, along with 15 others. I also have to question their decision to have Haku and the Catbus as the characters with the greatest anime impact, because, as iconic as they are, I don't think you can say they've had a greater impact than others on this list, and there are certainly others not included that deserve it more. The other minor annoyances with the deck (which honestly are more nitpicky than anything) are that, while nearly all the characters have their most iconic anime listed for them (i.e. Rengoku has Demon Slayer: Mugen Train listed, Goku and Vegeta has Dragon Ball Z), but Major Kusanagi has Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence listed, which is an odd decision. It also lists 2004 (when Innocence released) as the year she made her debut, but it should be 1995 as this is when the original Ghost in the Shell came out. AND it also says that she has only made 2 anime appearances, which is not even remotely correct as, at the time the cards were made, she had been in at least half a dozen. The cover for the deck also has 8 pictures, of which 2 are not actually included. Firstly, they show Akira (from Akira) even though Tetsuo is the only character from the film, and Mei from My Nieghbour Totoro, even though she is not included, only the Catbus is. Lastly, the deck says it includes a "Mind Blower" card which "contains a mind-blowing fact that you'll want to tell the world about!". This card is given to Asta from Black Clover, and I'll let you see if you can find what this mind-blowing fact is because I can't see anything. TL;DR, I am a big anime fan, and I was extremely dissapointed by this deck (the characters included, the stats on the cards, factual errors, the lack of effort/knowledge). I definitely wouldn't reccomend this to someone who is an avid fan, and to be honest, I don't even think I'd recommend this to someone who's just starting out either.
