Netgear replacement of BT Home hub 3
Since buying an iPhone and ipad2air in October last we experienced wifi drop outs most days and sometimes twice a day. We had a BT Home hub 3. BT replaced it for a new one. But it made no difference. After several months of putting up with these regular restarts, being told by BT to try different channels, not to use iPhone and the iPad at the same time etc I concluded the problem was the Home Hub. Incidentally the Speed Test was almost always between 5 and 6.8 around the house.I installed the Netgear about a month ago. No more drop outs. Not one. So wish I had known about this months ago and not listened to BT help.

A good router all round
I just replaced my D834GT with the D6300. It does the job for me pretty well. On the 5GHz WIFI frequency I attached my sony home cinema, my work laptop and the ipad. On the 2.4GHZ, I have an Iphone4, Iphone5, HTC Desire HD, a dell laptop, an ASUS tablet and a HP laser printer. I has a 6Mbs internet link. I have tried the following scenario where I have simultaneously, played the IPlayer on the home cinema, Youtube on both the dell laptop and Ipad, and uploading a couple of large files from my work laptop.(30 to 60 mb in size) and I have had no problems. I have had the router for one month and never lost the wifi connection on any one of my devices. The route which is placed in my study downstairs in one corner of a six bedroom house, I get reception in all the rooms. I get 1/2 bars in the garage about 25/30 meters away from the router on my laptop. Having said all that I am not a gamer so I have not put the router to a serious gaming test.

Great router with current firmware... spoiled only by what is missing
Purchased several months ago, but after purchase read some horrible feedback so i sat it out and waited for firmware updates. Finally took it out of the box last weekend and set it up, installed latest firmware and couldnt be happier. Easiest Netgear Router to setup that ive come across, but still gives access to advanced settings and features. Wifi signal excellent all around the house on both bands, have so much Wifi now im spoiled for choice. There were 2 gripes that spoiled an otherwise perfect show and therefore loses 2 stars...Netgear forcing us to choose paid Dynamic DNS services. I realise Netgear probably take a cut from any subscriptions, but i paid a fair whack for this router and i want to use a Dynamic DNS service of my choice by specifying its address. I dont expect to be straight jacketed like this when buying what was the top of the range router (until the Nighthawk came out). Hopefully enough people complain that they include it in a future firmware update. If this doesnt happen, then i will look at other brands for my next router upgrade. No Genie App for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8. There are no Apple or Android devices in my house, never have been and never will be. Suddenly i am a second class citizen and an afterthought. Hopefully Netgear will sort this out too.

Dead after two and a half months
I changed my ISP who provided me with a preconfigured Technicolor router. It seemed to lag and the range was poor so I decided to splash out on something really good. Was I mistaken - yes. My speed has improved a little - marginally and my pings have decreased - marginally, but the range is less than my 7 year old Belkin. Really really poor. I am now looking to buy a wireless access point so that I can stream video in my living room. Very very disappointed. For this money I would have expected something much better than a £35 Technicolor - but it is not.Set up was very slow as was connecting any wifi device. Thinking of returning as it really isn't fit for purpose.Addendum:Have found that this router is also blocking ports to my iCloud e-mail - not sure how to fix this but my iCloud mail returns:Unable to open iCloudThe server p12-imap mail.com on port 992 timed out.To contact Netgear you either pay for a premium cost phone call (0844 number) or try to speak to on-line chat which can take queueing all morning.Never had this with either of my other routers - really really fed up now.Further updateFINAL COMMENT:26TH SEPTERMBER 2014 - THIS ROUTER DIED TODAY - dead as a dodo. Tried changing the fuse in plug, but that didn't help. These routers are not fit for purpose. Please be warned, don't buy. Real rubbish - Netgear should be ashamed. Will never buy another product from them.Only consolation is that buying from Amazon there is no hassle at all about returning and getting a refund, so thank you very much Amazon. Now - which router can I buy? :S

Excellent When Used As a Wireless Bridge
I had a problem. I was on virgins 200mbps broadband but my virgin 2.0ac modem was downstairs in the living room whilst my gaming computer was upstairs in the bedroom underneath a desk and had no wifi card.I was using 500mbps powerlines for a long time but they capped out at about 70mb meaning I could not use my connection speed to the fullest, with steam downloads maxing out at about 8mb/sec.I initially bought a tp link archer Ac1750 pcie wifi card which did not work well at all when under the desk and I promptly returned it.My next plan of action was to buy gigabit powerline adapters but wasn't sure if they would perform much better than my 500s.At this point I came across the Netgear D6300 for about the same price as the powerlines from Amazon Warehouse. A quick Google search showed that this could be set up as a Wireless bridge. I ordered straight away and got next day delivery via prime.First impressions were that it was a bit big but I did think it looked pretty cool. Connected it via Ethernet to my computer, went through the settings to set up in bridge mode and in about half an hour I was up and running. My setup is now as follows, the D6300 sits a couple of meters from my desk and is connected to my computer via Ethernet cable. The D6300 connects to my virgin modem via 5ghz ac at 867mbps.I now enjoy my full 200mb virgin connection with max download speeds on steam at 25mb/sec!Small downside - having used it for sometime is that I have had the occasional signal drop but I am not sure if that is because of the netgear or because the virgin modem is pants.
