MIL Is Very Spiritual & Loved This Compass - She Thinks Carefully About Her Home's Energy Flow
I gifted this to our next door neighbour (my MIL, who is very spiritual) and this made her burst into tears (of happiness). I was quite surprised, actually! It comes packaged in a cardboard box (shame it had the postal label on the front, but, oh well) and the compass itself comes covered with an adhesive brown paper on the back - easy enough to remove. This Home Genie "Vastu Shastra Compass Feng Shui Energy Direction Tool" is perfect for her as she thinks very carefully about the layout of her home and its energy flow. She's into interior design (and a highly skilled woodworker, seamstress and DIYer, but I digress). Instructions say: - Place the compass flat in the centre of your room - Align it with North to check Vastu compliance - Use it to guide element placement for optimal energy balance I won't pretend to know exactly how this works but she was absolutely thrilled by this compass and I know she will use it conscientiously.

Not a compass but a chart. Your phone has a compass though.
I ordered this 'Vastu Shastra Compass' Feng Shui energy Direction Tool from the Amazon brand Home Genie. Well. Basically I got it because I was reading a book about Feng Shui and it mentioned compasses and I found the whole thing fascinating. The chart itself is indeed fascinating, and it is a useful chart to learn about Feng Shui or indeed to practice it. It's not a compass however, as there is no needle pointing north. You can use your phones compass pretty well, not sure what Feng Shui would say to that. Its basically an acrylic panel, well coloured, and once I got the random paper layer off it ( I presume to stop it from being scratched in transit, which probably means its suseptible to be scratched in situ ) I had a lot of fun trying to work out what it all meant. I used the book as a tool to help be understand in, as well as online translations and several websites. Its lost a star becasue a lot of the info I found could have come on a little paper booklet of instructions; a beginner's guide. The current price for the item is £13.94 which. honestly I've no idea if that's a good price. It's certainly worth something for curiosity value! I've taken two points off, one for lack of instructions and one for lack of compass, but that 's not to say its not an interesting and intriguing object, just one that you really need some additional knowledge on - there is much to learn! Three stars

strong and transparent plastic
Acrylic plastic device. I do not follow these types of knowledge, but I enjoy knowing about their beliefs and their principles.

Intriguing bit of nonsense
I suspect that P T Barnum's ancestor invented this, and the phrase is best translated as 'one born every minute', but this is an attractive, if useless object. There are no instructions, and many of the words on the wheel are, therefore, unintelligible, not being in English. Originally, feng shui also required an astrological reading - more tosh, but it required accurate information about positions of planets and stars, and mathematical sophistication, so there was a valuable contribution to real scientific discovery (and casting horoscopes is rather fun). A good addition to any collection of nonsense, and it does look nice and attract comment.
