Simply Outstanding - don't hesitate, just buy them!!
**NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW** These books are absolutely incredible and I utterly loved all of them. I read a lot of fantasy novels, by authors including George RR Martin, Mark Lawrence, Anthony Ryan and Joe Abercrombie, and much as I love all those authors, these books really do have an edge to them that elevates them to pole position in my "best ever" reads - and I do not say that lightly at all, it's a hard fought battle, no pun intended! So what makes them so good? In a nutshell, it's basically because John Gwynne is just such a downright excellent story teller - it really is as simple as that. Brilliant characters, richly detailed and believable world/world building, violent as hell in parts, profoundly deep and thought provoking in others. Also nail bitingly exciting, and many parts leaves you emotionally exhausted having read them - leaving you wanting to shout in anger, cry, laugh or otherwise just leave your jaw on the floor marvelling at how seemingly minor plot pieces come to bear and have a massive impact several hundred pages later, something initially seen as innocuous, having a huge bearing on the story - just first class, top notch writing. I'm not going to get into the story or what it's about, you'll find out once you start - and when you do, especially at the end of book one (Malice), you will immediately reach for the second book (Valour), and then again for the third and likewise fourth!! Just as an aside, these books are not at all child/early teen orientated and firmly fall into the "adult" camp - very much an 18 certificate, with violence, dark/sinister plotlines, and adult themes throughout. If you like Fantasy novels of a kin with The Song of Ice and Fire by George Martin, The First Law by Joe Abercrombie, or Raven's Shadow by Anthony Ryan, you will adore these books - I absolutely, 110% guarantee it!! Treat yourself - £25 quid for these 4 books as a package is ludicrously good value, and worth every penny

Good price for this substantial box set
I've been a big fan of heroic fantasy sagas, ever since reading Lord of the Rings in my teens. I've not found anything that quite makes you hungry to know what's around the next turn of the road like Tolkien's masterpiece but, having read much of the first volume Malice, I am enjoying this very much. It's quite gritty and dark and features a nicely-nuanced and somewhat flawed hero striving to make good. Lovers of epic fantasy won't be disappointed.

Cut pages
In general, I am happy with the quality of the delivery and books. However, there is one problem. There is a cut down the pages of the book 'Valour' where it looks like someone wasn't careful enough cutting it out of a box or something.

Incredible
I have to say this is the best series I've read since Mistborn. The characters are likeable, well written, and have huge development and growth. The story is action pack, and it keeps gearing it up until the finale. And the best bit is each books ends on a cliff hanger that forces you to start the new book as soon as you finish the last. I'd find it hard to believe if anyone told me they struggled to enjoy a single book in this series.

The **Faithful and Fallen Collection** by John Gwynne is an epic fantasy series that comprises four compelling installments: **Wrath, Ruin, Malice,** and **Valour**. Set in the richly imagined Banished Lands, the series follows the gripping saga of Corban and his battle against sinister forces threatening his realm. In **Wrath**, the stakes escalate as King Nathair seizes control of the fortress at Drassil, amassing three of the Seven Treasures with the intent to command a demon horde from the Otherworld. Meanwhile, Corban finds himself imprisoned by the formidable Jotun giants and must forge unlikely alliances to stand a chance against Nathair's escalating power. **Ruin** continues the turmoil as Queen Rhin conquers the west, and the dark machinations of Calidus unleash chaos upon the Banished Lands. **Malice** shifts focus to a younger Corban, who yearns for the battlefield and must confront the heavy burdens of courage and sacrifice as he witnesses the harsh realities of war. Finally, in **Valour**, the conflict intensifies as Nathair's army threatens to crush all opposition in his quest for dominion, while Corban and his allies confront the dire choices that could determine the fate of their world. Throughout these novels, Gwynne expertly crafts a tale of loyalty, betrayal, and resilience, vividly depicting the trials of his characters against a backdrop of epic battles and rich mythology. Each book intertwines complex relationships and moral dilemmas, making the **Faithful and Fallen Collection** a must-read for fans of fantasy who enjoy exploring the depths of heroism and the cost of war.

I really wanted to like this series. The plot is quite nice, not truly different from many similar series but it has twists that are unexpected and new. Unfortunately the plot is obscured by continuous violence: every other sentence is about fighting, specifically about some body-part being hacked off, or blood spurting somewhere, or throats being ripped out. I am not adverse to some violence and fighting scenes when they support the story, but in this series the fighting is continuous and repetitive. This gets so bad that, even though I want to know how it all turns out, I find myself reluctant to pick up the book to read further. And I am loathe to leave any book unfinished... If I were Mr Gwynne's editor I would have reduced this series to a duology, or perhaps even to one volume.
