Great all-purpose pot
This little pot is fantastic. It's the perfect size for 1 or 2 people, and I find the quality exceptional for the price. (I paid $30.) The main pot feels like 18/8 (and I think it said so on the box, but I'm not sure), and it holds the heat forever, if you want to turn off the burner and just let it stew. The "thin metal" others mention is in the steamer insert, and it's thin for a reason: it allows the contents to heat faster. It isn't elegant, but then I'm not paying for Cuisinart or KitchenAid either. It's sturdy, good solid quality, and it's well though-out: the vent in the glass lid is excellent. Having moved 3000 miles, and living in temporary -- and very reduced -- quarters. I am using this pot on a hot plate for pretty much everything, and I just love it. Steam veggies, then remove the steamer and throw some raviolis in the water and 3 minutes later, drain them and add in the steamed veggies. Or, throw in store-bought broth and pre-cooked rice, with leftover veggies, and have a wonderful vegetable and rice soup. It's a very serviceable item, and at the lowered price, it's a steal.

Healthy steaming
I have used my NorPro steamer several times in less then a month. This is the perfect steamer, I love the flat bottom basket with handle and the glass lid so I can see what is going on. The 4 qt size is perfect for me, it is heavy duty stainless steel, much healthier than using plastic in micro, and can be used as a cooking pot without the basket. The basket easily holds over a quart of veggies, such as one pound of green beans. The basket has a flat bottom so you can put two or three different veggies without mixing them together. The basket has a handle that makes it so easy to lift out, I always had trouble with those collapsable inserts, spilled food all the time. No need to change water, just fill basket, steam the veggies, lift the basket out and pour veggies into a bowl and refill the basket then return to the steamer pot. Saves water, time and fuel energy. Hand washing is recommended, and is so easy because there is nothing to wash, just needs a good rinsing. Try it, you'll love it! ! !

Great little pot for steaming eggs or veggies
So, I bought a two-level wire basket for steaming eggs, and then discovered that I didn't have a pot to hold it. This Norpro 4-quart stainless steel Steamer Cooker is just the right diameter for the typical egg basket, although slightly too short for a double basket with a wire handle. I solved the issue by bending the wire handle just enough to fit under the glass lid. The pot would be perfect if it were about 3/4-inch taller. The set does include a removable steamer insert, just right for vegetables but not ideal for eggs. If you're searching for an ideal egg steamer pot for stovetop use, IMHO this is the best currently available.

Pretty Steamy!
Works great...I use it all the time. I wanted an electric, stand alone steamer but it seems they all have BPA in them. Wasn't sure if it would hold much but it does hold quite a bit. It spews water a little bit while cooking...not sure if it would bother anyone but it doesn't bother me since it's not that much or messy. Great price on Prime! ***Update 3/1/16*** I love this thing...I still use it all the time and it's still in great shape! It boils water really fast so sometimes I use it just for that when I need to boil water for something. I've used it to boil eggs with out the basket and also like to steam them by placing them in the basket...I prefer to steam them in the basket because it makes it much easier to peel them! The downside to steaming them is that it can be tricky to get the timing right...usually about 16 minutes works for me and let it sit (with cover still on and off the stove) for about 3 minutes-but this can vary which makes it a bit tricky. The other "downside" is that it tends to crack the shell in the process of steaming--not every time and not every egg but it happens frequently. I've read before that supposedly when this happens, the shell was cracked before it was cooked just not visible...I'm no egg expert, though...I just know that I like steaming them and makes it a lot easier to peel! I also love to use it for making rice (I cook it in the pot without the basket). I personally feel like it cooks it better and faster...though, I'm used to cooking my rice on the stove and don't have a rice maker machine so I can't compare it to that. For broccoli, I get the water boiling first then put it in the basket. It steams really fast (and I tend to get distracted and can easily over steam it) so I usually set a timer for about 3 minutes and check on it to see if it's steamed the amount I want. For veggies like carrots I place in the basket and cover before I even turn on the heat- but even then, it still boils the water and steams pretty fast! I haven't had any problems with the handles getting hot, you do have to lift the lid (like on any other steamer) at an angle away from you otherwise it will be really hot but it has never been a problem for me.

Great for the RV
Must have for steaming Vegetables. I only use it for steaming vegetables, that way it cleans up spotless every time. It's small (diameter: 8.5 inches), so it's easy to clean in a small kitchen sink. It should last forever and stay beautiful steaming with water because it is stainless steel (as long as you don't burn it up). It doesn't take up too much room; whereas, I leave it clean on my RV stove after use. I wouldn't bother removing the steam basket when it is hot. Just scoop the food out with a large spoon and serve. If you must grab it while it's cooking, buy some cheap potholders.

Nice steam pot for the price
This is second steam pot we ordered from Amazon. The first one was much smaller than expected and so we returned it. This pot had good reviews and so we gave it a try. Very happy we did. The quality appears good and the size is perfect.
