My first one lasted 18 years so I bought another
This is the second roaster I’ve bought. The first one lasted me 18 years. This item is great. Holds a large ham or turkey. Cooks evenly. The food is moist and tender. The only thing is if the recipe calls for an oven temperature of 350 set the roaster to 325. It leaves the oven open for other uses. It’s well worth the money.

Makes extra space at holiday meals
I've used my roaster twice; Thanksgiving and Christmas. It arrived very fast and was in perfect condition.I ordered the roaster specifically to have 'extra space' in the oven because I cook two different meats for holiday meals. I cooked turkey for both dinners. The turkey was a hit. The meat was tender and the broth made fabulous gravy. The outside gets brown the same as if the turkey was cooked in the oven; although, the turkey (one 22# and the other 20#) cooked faster, I turned the roaster off, let some heat out, then replaced the lid and the turkey stayed hot until mealtime. No one realized I used a roaster instead of the oven so the roaster is a success. Now that the holidays are over I'm looking forward to experimenting and making soups and pot roasts in the cooker. I feel much more comfortable leaving the roaster on low all day and leaving the house. This isn't something I'd do with the stove-top or oven. I feel the roaster gives me more freedom with meals.

Best electric roaster I've ever seen or used. We absolutely love it!
It arrived earlier than we thought, heavy duty, lots of choices for heat settings, works great! We had a wonderful and moist turkey in 4 hours.

Best Feature is Huge 22Q Size
Going on 7 yrs now. Just noticed when going through old AMZ orders archives that I never reviewed it. So you get your 7 yr review here, and it's a good one. We use this about 8-10 times a year for big stuff turkeys, 3-4 chickens at a time, rib racks, briskets, rib roasts, pork shoulders, etc. It always cooks them perfectly. Just dial it in and walk away 4, 6, 12 hrs, whatever it takes. It has never let us down. The only negative I guess is that taking apart for cleaning is incredibly simple (just the pan and the lid), but the huge size makes washing, scrubbing a little inconvenient. We expect this thing to last another 20 yrs at least.

Trial Runs Recommended.
Oster CKSTRS23 22-Quart Roaster Oven, Stainless Steel This oven works pretty much as expected, though the cooking directions leave something to be desired. For example, the booklet said to cook a 12-pound turkey at 375 for 3.5 hours. It was done an hour early, and bordering on being overdone at that. Everyone should become familiar with his or her own oven's cooking times. That 12-pound bird would have been better at 350 for 2.45 hours, or 375 for 2 hours. Make sure you have a test run or two before you rely on it for something like a major holiday, and write corrections in its cookbook to help you or others remember the temperatures and times you really need. Once you do that, I don't foresee any major problems. The metal cased unit also gets quite hot and you or little kids can be burned if proper care isn't exercised. A magnetic rip-away cord would have been nice for safety, but you can also accidentally unplug those and not notice for hours, so even those aren't perfect. So, with it's normal plug, set it someplace out of major traffic ways and make sure the cord is not going to be tripped over.Despite what I've read in other oven reviews, the turkey's skin was crispy - no problem - I just rubbed it with oil and sprinkled it with seasoning. It's a large oven and it holds a 22-pound turkey without a problem. The clean up of the removable large crock-pot like inner shell isn't too hard, but like any oven, you might wish to occasionally use an oven cleaner and soak it when elbow grease isn't enough. I don't have the three-compartment serving tray, but I suspect this would make an excellent chaffing dish for parties (that lower temperature wouldn't burn people - just keep the cord out of the way). Finally, using this instead of your conventional oven would keep the house cooler in the summer, and since it's portable, you can easily use it out on the patio or deck. All in all, I'd recommend this oven.

WONDERFUL UNIT
Very, very, very happy with this item! It arrived the day before Thanksgiving and I made my 23 pound turkey in it. The turkey was moist and delicious. I cooked the turkey at 425 for 1 hour and then set it down to 200 for the remainder of cooking time. After removing the turkey, I then made a huge pan of dressing with some of the drippings at 325 and again, moist and scrumptious. This is a large unit that can accommodate just about anything you want to cook AND it doesn't heat up the whole kitchen. I was able to use my oven for pies and rolls while this baby did the rest. It was an awesome early Christmas present that I will use for many years to come!

My never favorite cooking tool.
I used one of my new roasters to cook a turkey and one to cook a ham for Thanksgiving. Both of the roasters workeed great.I had both roasters set up in the garage so I could free up space in my kitchen and garage oven. I had 30 guest for Thanksgiving and so many of my helpers asked about my roasters.. I had my house oven filled, garage oven filled with food and my roasters going.Having 2 roasters was a real help.

Great for Low and Slow Turkey Roasting
Growing up we always cooked our turkeys in a roaster over like this; we never basted or anything. Every single time they turned out perfectly; moist, flavorful and falling off the bone. Plus it freed up oven space. I now have my own and it worked perfectly again, FYI this 22 qt cooked a 21# turkey with a bit of room to spare. When my parents first married they were stationed in Italy and used their first roaster oven as an oven as well, more good ideas!
