The Hundred Line - Last Defense Academy Nintendo Switch - Limited Edition

Really fun, well priced for the collectors edition - relative to the regular edition of the game and most switch titles launching at 60 The demo was enjoyable so I decided to spring for the full game and I’m so glad I did.First of all, the gameplay is fun, the storytelling is engaging and the characters are really well written. This studio is known for their ability to craft a good cast, and it feels like the writers were trying to make the player both love and hate the characters. This doesn’t always land, but the effort is overt. The overarching mystery is engaging and helps with staying invested.My best estimate is that it takes 75 ish hours to complete the main story. There’s a lot of opportunity for continuing past the main story for the various endings. I’d recommend this game for people who enjoyed Dangan Ronpa. Please avoid this game if you’re only a fan of the turn based combat and not interested in the writing or characters. The game is 70% story, 25% combat, and maybe 5% mini games and grinding.That being said, I cannot recommend this game ENOUGH. It feels like it fits in the dangan ronpa series, but it doesn’t rehash the same plot again. If you told me this actually happens around DR2 or the end of the first game I’d believe you. The plot is totally new and independent IP and it’s very much worth the time. Absolute gem in the Spike Chunsoft library that I’ll be replaying again and again.-1 star because Junko’s the antagonist again :/

This game comes from the creators of Danganronpa, and they said that they put everything on the line (went into heavy debt) to make this game a reality. It's a bit of a shame that the game release was overshadowed by another great game, so I implore you to give this a try if you are into the past works of Kazutaka Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi. The artwork is iconic and fans will immediately recognize the source.The gameplay loop involves spending your days interacting with other cast members to build up certain stats, exploration, and enemy battles. It plays like an interactive visual novel similar to Danganronpa with exploration, but you also get the added elements of strategy based RPG battles.Battles are set up on a grid and turn based, where your team's actions are based on action points. The turn starts with a set amount of action points -- you can add or subtract action points based on what you do (usually, you'd be consuming them) but any unused action points carry over to the next round after the enemy acts. This creates an interesting layer of strategy that most other SRPGs I've played don't have, so I'm interested in seeing how this develops. I'm only a few hours in, but I am already hooked!Since this is a review on the collector's edition, I should mention that I am pleased that the collector edition box is actually a thick cardboard that houses everything inside neatly packed, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to fit everything back in. The included artbook has over 70 pages, and the mini novel has over 30 pages. The artbook features mini bios of each character and concept art, while the mini novel is a file that is recommended to be read after the game is completed to avoid spoilers. I am super pleased with the contents of this collector's edition, and I feel the value is absolutely there for just 40$ more than the base game. I haven't even listened to the included sound track yet because I'd rather experience the full game first, but I am already excited for that because some of the music I've heard so far are bangers. Get this collector's edition before they're gone!!

Absolutely love this game, only working on ending 2 out of 100 so far and the game far exceeded my expectations! I bought the digital deluxe edition first as I wasn't originally sure how much I would care for the Limited Edition, but after I started playing it I became obsessed with story (it may take a while to warm up but I promise it's worth it) and HAD to have the Limited Edition.I cannot express how much fun I've been having with the story, dialogue, how the characters interact and how my attachment has grown on them as I've kept playing, and how fun the combat is. I normally don't like difficulty in games (I mostly prefer to focus on the story), but I started on "Normal" mode just to give it a try and I've got to say that the combat has been enjoyable enough that I've been sticking to playing on "Normal" mode rather than changing to the easy mode! You can change the difficulty at any time, though, so if you decide to change your mind later on then there's that option!Either way, PLEASE, PLEASE play this game. So much love was put into it and it shows.

So much fun and haven't even made it close to reaching all the various endings. Writing has the same charm as danganronpa and gameplay like fire emblem. Characters are quirky and easy to love. It is a VERY long game, which is refreshing after so many games rely on paid dlc after launch. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who likes the genre.

If you're reading this, why haven't you bought the game yet?What an absolute masterpiece. Kodaka/Uchikoshi coming together has been a dream, and this might just be their magnum opus yet. I cannot believe how much content, dedication, and work was poured into this game. I've only completed the "prologue" so far, but I have so many burning questions that need answering. The characters, the world, and even the gameplay have magnitudes in depth and complexity. I can't remember the last time a single-player game sucked me in this hard, and I'm currently having so much trouble putting it down (goodbye RL responsibilities!) because I need answers!Please buy the game so these brilliant minds at Too Kyo Games can keep creating. You will not be disappointed.
