Q: what are the ingredients?

The tubes are not reused. Portland Bee Balm belongs to a program that can recycle small plastics so if you return the tubes to them, they can send them on for recycling.

Q: would the manufacturer address my concern that the olive oil in it might go rancid?

There is an expiration date on the product - mine has always arrived with at least a year, if not more, before the expiration date. The beeswax helps preserve the olive oil so it will stay fresh until well after the expiration date. I received Reviva's lip conditioner with absolutely zero expiration date and it looked like it was years old. That's why I stopped using it. I buy the 3 pack Portland bee balm and it takes me a year to a year and a half to use up all 3 tubes. The last one is just as fresh as the first. Does that answer your question?

Q: Is the packaging plastic? I’m looking for something with recyclable materials.

It is a plastic container with a wood veneer around it. My lips will get irritated with other balms, this one is great.
