NEIL MACKAY : A TUNEFUL INTRODUCTION TO THE 3RD POSITION

Its working after the first exercise
Just started using this and 3rd position is beginning to make sense. It has a gently introduction and I am no longer playing by numbers but its making me think about the note I'm playing, the intervals and finger position. Good to have a whole set of tunes / exercises in one book to develop the skill

Graduated practise
A great book for practising third position. It starts easily and quickly gets harder. The pieces themselves are mostly enjoyable - I'd say about two-thirds being good fun to play. It's not just teaching me about third position but also a range of other important techniques - spicatto is one (something I'd done very little of before using this book), bowing in different parts of the box is another. There is clear guidance on how to play the pieces that forces me to challenge myself to do things I haven't done before. Good book.
