Z Gelled Microfiber Bed Pillow - Queen

Pillow preferences vary from person to person. This review is aimed at helping you make the right decision based on the characteristics of this particular pillow. At the time this review was written, I have used the pillow for 2 years. After sleeping on the pillow for over 700 nights, I still prefer it to any pillow I have ever had. As soon as you hold it, will notice it has a heavier feel - more than cheaper poly filled pillows. It is cuddly and scrunchy - more so than dense foam pillows. Most importantly, it offers good support to my head. It did take a couple of nights for the gelled micro fibers to settle. I liked it more on the second week than the first week. I sleep on my back or sides mostly. After two years, the fill has not fallen flat; it still lifts my head off the bed with great support - just right for me. My wife, however, prefers a flatter pillow. For this reason, she does not use her Z pillow - except to cuddle with. If you prefer a flatter pillow, the Z Gelled Microfiber pillow is not for you.Some reviewers have complained that the pillow does not fit their pillow cases; others say it fits fine. To me, the pillow's length to width ratio seems off. It just seems longer and skinnier than most other pillows. My queen size Z pillow measures approximately 28 inches long by 15 inches wide. In my queen size pillow cases, the pillow tends to protrude out of the case (slightly) because of the length. Also, it didn't quite fill the case up width-wise. You can measure your own cases to determine what will happen before ordering this particular pillow.The pillow comes in a black and clear plastic travel case. This provides the consumer with a nice presentation of the pillow, but I never used the travel case and eventually got rid of it. The pillow is well constructed with good seams. I received ty 'Z by Malouf Gel Microfiber' pillow this morning. Opening the box, I found the pillow enclosed in Malouf's excellent clear/black carrying case. Quite a presentation for an inexpensive pillow. However, when I pulled out the pillow, nothing about it screamed "cheap pillow!". First, the pillow does not have an optional cover so you are feeling the actual pillow upholstry (for lack of a better word at this moment). It had to be the softest, smoothest material I've felt - not like satin, more like silk. I didn't want to stop running my hands over it. The feel of the gelled microfiber was like sinking into a cloud. It felt like no other synthetic down I've experienced before (and I've gone through a lot of the major ones!). I couldn't wait so I laid down on it and I thought it was truly the closest to a down pillow I've ever experienced with a synthetic. After further inspection, I was very impressed with the construction. Besides the material, the seams were well done, some of the best I've seen on a pillow and better than on some more expensive pillows I've had in the past. Overall, I'd say "Z by Malouf" are far above the average pillow and with prices you don't have to sell your first born to afford!With that said, I do have some personal observations which may be useful to others but for which I did not score down the pillow:1) This is a SOFT pillow, no way around it. I'm a side sleeper so this is not going to be a primary pillow but it works very nice to cuddle with or to sleep on my stomach or back with. I did put it into a standard pillow cover which, due to the length, made it thicken a little.2) Note to the manufacturer: How about making your pillows in standard widths. The length corresponded to a queen size pillow but the 16" width is 4" less than a standard/queen pillow's 20-inch width. This really does create problems if you like your pillow enclosures/pillow cases to fit nicely. Again, the size is great for cuddling and wasn't really that bad for sleeping on but I have a lot of loose pillow case on each side of the pillow. Just a suggestion. This is, to me, what keeps this from being THE Perfect pillow.3) The microfiber gel pillow is wonderful! Can it be produced in medium and firm? Does the type of microfiber allow for medium/firm/extra firm pillows?Overall, if you like a soft pillow, this one is heaven for the price of a Happy Meal!

I love how feather pillows move, how when you scrunch them up they hold a little shape and then fluff back up when you want them to. What I hate are the feathers that poke and shed. This pillow seems to be the best of both. The fill moves it almost seems like the fibers in the pillow slide against each other, then they keep some of that shape (more like feathers that memory foam or other synthetic fills), but they also bounce back. The only other pillows that I have found to be as comfortable were purchased for about $65 a piece. The Microfiber cover is very soft and I find myself working off the pillow case a bit during the night because it is so soft that I want it against my skin. I always buy my pillow cases with softness as they key feature so the fact that the cover on the cover is softer than my pillow cases.... The cover also feels sturdy. Often I have found fabric that is called micro fiber to be very thin and the cover does not feel thin. These are the kind of pillows that could make you a pillow snob.If you don't want a pillow that is too firm or too smushy I think you will be happy sleeping on these.5-8-2013 Update: Two years later and these pillows have held up well. We decided it was time to replace some older pillows on our bed as we tend to sleep with 5-6 pillows. We decided to order two more of these pillows and were very happy when we received them that the quality was the same as the first set we purchased. These pillows are a little more narrow than some other king size pillows, but that has been a good thing for us as it is easier to get them in pillow cases and also when you tend to sleep with lots of pillows these slightly narrower pillows work better and the narrower pillows fit under your neck better if you are a side sleeper. They also are a little longer than some king size pillows I have owned which allows them to double as body pillows.

Very comfy pillow. I got the body size. Could have had more stuffing, and judging by the pictures it should have, but other than that I still use it to this day.

I'm sorry for giving this 1 star, but the Queen sized pillow I got was just horrible.The pillow that I received was about 1/4 the height of what you see in the pictures.There was almost no filling inside, and what little filling was inside had two long hard lumps near the middle.I bought the body pillow version of this and it was incredible. It was the reason why I tried to buy a queen sized, hoping for the same fluffiness, and cool temperatures.What I got instead of some hard under filled lumpy piece of crap.

The gel fiber is comfortable but it's not particularly "full" and feels somewhat like a pillow that's been used for some time even shortly after purchasing. The issue is that it's like a bag of tortilla chips. Lots of empty space in a large bag, but the filling itself is decent.

Nice pillow

Pretty good. For the 30 bucks paid I am happy with it... Still searching for an amazing pillow, but won't find one this good for 30 bucks.
