A TV show that's worth watching
I like that I got a great deal on a TV show that is worth watching and I would recommend watching it.

Arguably the best Psychological Anime
Instead of doing an in-depth review and analysis of the entire series, I feel it is best that that be left up to the viewer. Upon completion of this series, some research will be required to fully understand the complexity of the entire story so that everything comes together logically. For me personally, that is one element of enjoyment in any piece of media, but especially this one. With that said, this Anime is definitely not for everyone. It requires a lot of attentiveness to pickup on the philosophical, mythological, and even nihilistic themes covered throughout the majority of the series. Some of these are obvious at times, while others are more thoroughly hidden throughout. But, if any of these topics interest you, you have stumbled upon one of the best Animes ever contrived along with some very memorable and interesting characters.Of course I must also mention the exceptional animation and post-apocalyptic environments that give off an eerie beauty to the world of Ergo Proxy which are unique to this show.Along with all of this is a soundtrack (Opus 1 and Opus 2) that is nothing short of perfection and fits the Cyberpunk post-apocalyptic theme of the show seamlessly (thank you Ike Yoshihiro). I also have to mention the Opening and Outro, which both musically and visually leave you with anemoia for this show once finished. Monoral and Radiohead really do translate this shows aesthetic to music. To conclude: if you are even slightly into thought-provoking stories, Ergo Proxy is a must watch. Lastly, this Anime has a fantastic DUB, strongly recommend it over the sub as it adds a lot of personality to each one of the characters.Good luck finding your raison d'etre.

a curious surprise...
By no means would I consider myself an anime buff (I only own a few: Darker Than Black, Wolf's Rain, Sword of the Stranger, Appleseed, Vexille, and now Ergo Proxy), but I was so pleasantly surprised by this collection. I bought it strictly on the synopsis because it seemed different. Since I am always on the look out for a new and interesting piece of anime, I am open to pretty much all sorts. This one, admittedly, caught my eye because of the box art. Yes, I know I am "judging a book by its cover." But honestly, its just a still from a scene in the first episode but it seems to convey alot, just in the cover. So I read the description and thought that it sounded like a break from the typical "here is a hero against insurmountable odds, hoping to prevail in a war they cannot win." This anime is definately told precisely FOR the story. There is some good action sprinkled throughout the adventure, but the collection spends the majority of the time developing the characters and connecting the plots. The amazon description is an accurate synopsis of the show, so I will not regergitate that all over again, suffice to say there is enough going on in the whole series that you almost HAVE to watch it over just to catch all the ideaology and psychology presented. It's a fun show if you're in to thinking about what's going on. Not for those who just want action with no substance behind it. I will definately be watching this series over and over again. I'm sure I will find something new about it each time.

A good shelf edition for people who enjoy a tiny bit of cerebral fun in anime
A true classic. Thought-provoking without being pretentious.A utopian society living in a protective dome on the war-damaged, inclement-weathered Earth. The robotic citizens are beginning to rebel due to a virus giving them self-awareness, and it's up to our protagonist, Re-l Mayer to track down rogue units. Enter Vincent Law, a refugee from another dome who is looking to become a full-fledged citizen in a society that looks down on his people. Add in a dash of god-like monsters who seem both integral to the society's function as well as bent on destroying it, and Re-l Mayer and Vincent Law become irreversibly entwined in the chaos. That's where our story begins. The art is dark and beautifully drawn. The characters are interesting enough, with enough light moments to break up an otherwise sinister plotline. It also does what a lot of good stories do, and it doesn't tell you everything. You tend to forget which parts were fed to you, piece-meal throughout the story, and which parts you filled in with your own imagination. The blu-ray transfer seems great since the anime was already in 16:9 format. I recommend this anime to anyone who... well, anyone.

One of my favorite shows!
The show is a hidden gem and a personal favorite of mine! This is a great release for any fan.My only gripe with all the DVD/Blu-Ray versions of Ergo Proxy is that the included English subtitles don't match the English audio track, and there is no option for closed captions.
