Effective but has a VERY strong odor!
I purchased this to try to get a handle on a fly situation in one particular part of the yard where our dog does consistently does his business. Even though we handle the mess, a large quantity of flys still persist in the area. This product comes as a plastic jar with a vented lid and two packets of disolvable powder that is the attractant for the flys. All you have to do fill the jar up to a line with water and drop the powder packet into the water, put the lid on and hang it up in the area where the flies congregate. The product is effective in that it attracts a lot of flied into the liquid where they they eventually drown, but the jar emits a potent noxious odor. In my case the odor was strong enough that I could smell it all the way at my back door which was unpleasent to say the least. The kit comes with an extra attractant pack, but I could not bring myself to pour out the contents becuase of the smell and ended up just throwing the whole thing away.

Don't bother to be fiscally responsible and reuse the bucket!
Did it kill the flies - YES! It was amazing. I thought I would be fiscally responsible and buy the reusable trap, dump it out, clean it... reuse it. Sounds good to the first time fly fighter. That was insanity. The most disgusting experience ever. Even writing about it now is making me gag. The smell was revolting, the hundreds of dead flies in various stages of decomp... I will be haunted by them. The dumped out and not clean bucket is out in the yard waiting for the next day that I feel lucky to go throw it away.It works, but I would get one bucket per packet of bait.

Limited effectiveness compared to the fliesbegone bags
This product does catch flies, but nowhere near as well as fliesbegone plastic bags. The problem is that the opening into the soda bottle allows flies to easily fly back out again and escape. Fliesbegone bags catch them and they stay caught and die. In 2 weeks, my fliesbegone bag traps were full to the top with dead flies. The bottles had limited success while the fliesbegone bags were filling up at the exact same periods of usage. The soda bottle connector should have a mesh opening that necks down leading into the bottle like the bags have. The plus side of the bottle over the bag is at disposal time. Just replace the fliesbegone connector with the original soda bottle cap and throw it away, as opposed to an easily punctured, spillable bag full of dead flies, maggots and stinky liquid. Next season, I’ll attempt to fabricate a narrow cone to fit the soda bottle. Fortunately, the fly season is now over. One added observation however, I was trying to reduce the outbreak of deer flies and I couldn’t identify a single one with all the other dead flies. I’m not really sure if the bait actually worked on them. Also, I inadvertently bought a couple of RedTop bag fly traps that look identical to fliesbegone bag traps and the redtop caught very few flies. I tried fliesbegone bait in them and immediately starting catching high quantities, so the only real difference is in the bait. Amazon sells fliesbegone bait separately, so if anyone has the redtop traps, they should order fliesbegone bait for them. It definitely works.

Seriously disappointed
You're supposed to cut open and empty the attractant into a 2 liter bottle, shake it up a bit, screw on the monster to and hang it out with the provided hanging strips. Except that even after cutting open the attractant I couldn't smell it. AND... one I went to screw on the monster caps, the 2 that I put on BOTH SNAPPED!! look at the pictures... they are splitting at the seams!Flies Be Gone traps have been a part of our Spring & Summer routine for over 10 years. We normally buy the bag variant like the stock photo I uploaded (bag with yellow and red top) ... however these don't seem to be in production any longer. So we went with what we thought would be the next best thing. We purchased the 6 monster tops that come with the fly attractant mixture. Now, normally you can tell that it's a Flies Be Gone package being delivered just by the stench of the attractant seeping through the box. It used to be THAT strong. Not this time. It is weak and I foresee this being a huge waste of time and money.

It sure catches flies.
This fly catcher is definitely easy to use. Although it says you can use it again, no way. The smell is unbearable so it can't be handled. Unfortunately you have to have it so far away, otherwise, you won't be able to handle the stench.

Get rid of your flies
When used properly, it works great. Just don't hang it near a door or window. The scent reminds me of rotting flesh to attract the flies. The attractant must be renewed each week. I am buying more attractant to rid more flies.Thank you.

What I found
I read the reviews on StarBar, Safer Brand Victor M383. and Fly Be Gone Monster. Everyone had great views . So I bought all 3, came home and put one bottle of each in a fly infested area. Fly Be gone won hands down, after a month I have 2 inches of dead flies in bottle, the others have less than 1/4 inch, maybe. I guess the Flies in my area like Monster, it may not be the same for your area. The only bad thing is, don't tighten to hard the yellow tops onto the bottle, they have a habit of splitting at the seam. I had to re-glue 3 of the 6.

They split at the seams when screwed onto the bottle, be cautious.
I've used other toss fly traps that attracted flies better but what come with this one works fine. I'll mix up my own attractant. I like the fact the tops are reusable and a bottle I'll toss in my recycling will become the base.
