The Rig Veda: Complete (Illustrated)

An incredible text that everyone should read.

I haven't read through the whole thing but so far I'm blown away and I love the illustrations!!

This text serves my purposes as a novice seeking to have a large collection of the Rig Veda hymns in English translaton. The 19th century translations are not too bad but the proof reading of the OCR scan leaves something to be desired. Errors that should have been caught by a good copy editor. But the real surprise was that there are only a handful of illustrations. Well, on the other hand the margins are very wide, so you can draw your own illustrations. Too bad more care in formatting was not taken.

There are three pictures in the front, not related to any particular, so no, it is not "illustrated". This is the only translation of the Rig Veda available at an affordable price. the Forgotten Books edition also uses this same translation. Apparently it is public domain. The critical edition costs over $400 so we are pretty much stuck with this old translation. It will have to do.

Typos everywhere. Lazy, awful translation.

illustrated ??? 3 bad photo kopies in the beginning. fussy black and white. There you go! i feel cheated.

We get lots of insight into Hindu spirituality.

Nella documentazione sull'app non è specificato che si tratti della traduzione del 1889, 134 anni or sono. Questo aggiunge complessità per una interpretazione del senso di queste scritture, già complesse per conto loro. Per di più è solo il testo, non una nota esplicativa o un commento. Purtroppo, però, non ho trovato nessuna altra edizione completa né in inglese né, tanto meno, in italiano. Non credo si possa considerare un libro "da leggere" ma solo da consultazione.
