I want to store some pungent spices - is this tin completely air tight?

It is as airtight as any tin - it does not have any extra seal but certainly keeps biscuits from going stale

Is it dishwasher safe?

As safe as any other tin one would put in the dishwasher. Probably better to clean with warm soapy water.
