I had very subpar luck and connectivity experiences with an express VPN aircove travel router. I stay fairly exclusively at Marriott properties when I travel and I was only ever able to connect in wifi mode once over the past year. It consistently timed out when redirecting to the captive portal. No workarounds were successful. I have used the Slate 7 twice so far and it performed flawlessly. Captive portal redirection and ability to authenticate performed flawlessly. The connection was not only rock solid, it was extremely fast for the 4 devices I had connected (corp laptop, mobile phone, Google Chromecast, and Steam Deck). Highly recommend for any traveller (business or otherwise) who want to easily and securely connect multiple devices to a guest wifi network.

I bought this to address a specific network issue I was experiencing between my main system and a MS Surface Pro. I needed a way to increase the bandwidth between these 2 devices, and also provide Internet. On both systems I installed USB-C 2.5GB network adapters. I set the WAN port to a LAN port, and plugged both systems in. I connected the router as a client to the WIFI. Now normally, when you have both an active WIFI and ethernet connection, the primary connection always defaults to the ethernet. I manually set the metric on my main system to default to the WIFI. On the surface, I disabled the WIFI so it goes through via the travel router. This established a route from the main PC to the Surface via ethernet. After testing the speed between the systems, I was getting a solid 1.8Gbps. That perfectly fixed my issue, but wait....there's more.. Now that I had this very robust router up and running, I absolutely had to check out it's other features. The web interface is extremely intuitive and I quickly got a sense of all of the features available. I tested the VPN client by adding my ProtonVPN manually to the router, and it only took about 3 minutes to have it up and running and tested. It has AdGuard built in, which I won't need much at home since I run PiHole, but it will be very handy when I am travelling. There are a lot of options for remotely managing the router, but also it has an SSH connection. For the very tech-savvy, this is a welcome feature. There is a ton more I could spend hours writing about, but let me condense it down to this. I was worried about spending this much to fix a minor issue I had, but after seeing how perfectly it fixed the issue, and the additional tools that this adds to my travel kit, I am more than satisfied, This is high quality and worth every penny.

I absolutely love the GL.iNet GL-BE3600 (Slate 7) travel router. I owned a previous model and decided to upgrade to this version. I’m really glad I did. I bring this router with me on every trip, and it has worked great for both me and my family. It’s reliable, fast, and gives us a secure connection whether we’re at a hotel or on the go. Setup was very easy, and it comes with everything you need to get up and running quickly. Overall, this is a fantastic portable router and a worthwhile upgrade from older models. GL.iNet continues to deliver solid travel-friendly networking gear.

These GL.iNet travel routers are amazing and should be part of any travel kit (if you don't use it at home). I love that it works in any combination of ethernet / wireless configurations. You can connect to a hotel's wifi and then broadcast your own SSID on your own private subnet. In my case, I give it the same name, password, and subnet as my home network so that devices, even those with static addresses just connect automatically without any configuration changes needed. And these routers are feature rich - eclipsing the features of most home routers, including the ability to have your entire remote network connected through a 3rd party VPN provider. The quality is great, the features are plentiful, and the flexibility is amazing. This is actually my third one, as my kids keep appropriating them from me.

Ik ga deze gebruiken voor de vakanties. Thuis zijn alle apparaten middels wifi verbonden met de gl.inet. Op de camping hoef ik alleen de Gl.inet met wifi te verbinden en alles werkt zoals het thuis werkt. Tevens kan ik de wifi via een exit node laten lopen, waardoor ik een beveiligde verbinding heb.

Ich nutze den GL.iNet GL-BE3600 (Slate 7) auf meinen längeren Reisen, die oft mehrere Monate dauern, und bin mit dem Gerät rundum zufrieden. Der Router ist kompakt, leicht und perfekt für unterwegs geeignet. Besonders wichtig war mir ein sicheres WLAN, und genau das liefert der Slate 7 zuverlässig, egal ob über WireGuard oder OpenVPN. Die Einrichtung ist sehr übersichtlich und verständlich gestaltet, auch für Nutzer ohne tiefgehende Netzwerkerfahrung. Innerhalb weniger Minuten ist der Router einsatzbereit. Die Benutzeroberfläche ist logisch aufgebaut, und man findet alle wichtigen Funktionen schnell. Im Betrieb läuft das Gerät äußerst stabil, keine Abbrüche, keine Neustarts nötig, selbst bei längerer Nutzung über mehrere Stunden oder Tage hinweg. Auch die Geschwindigkeit und Reichweite des WLANs sind für ein so kompaktes Gerät beeindruckend. In Kombination mit der flexiblen Stromversorgung (USB-C) und der Möglichkeit, verschiedenste VPN-Profile zu speichern, ist der Router ein echter Gewinn für alle, die unterwegs sicher online sein möchten, ob im Hotel, Ferienhaus oder Wohnmobil. Fazit: Ein sehr zuverlässiger und leistungsstarker Reise-Router mit hervorragender VPN-Unterstützung und einfacher Bedienung. Klare Empfehlung für Vielreisende!
