It says this robe is kimono style. Does that mean that at the thighs it starts to spread out instead of covering all the way around?

Nothing kimono about this robe. The sleeves have a cuff and aren't overly wide or long per photo. Wraps around with enough fabric like a regular robe, not straight like a kimono. This is my favorite robe ever! The sizing chart is correct too.
