CFN-6516SE LP Gear Upgrade Stylus for PS-LX300USB Sony Turntable

The original Sony conical stylus that came with this turntable never gave accurate music reproduction especially in the lower range. I hadn't realized it was a conical stylus or I would have replaced it a long time ago. This new elliptical stylus with a diamond tip reads ALL of the information in the groove! I had always had elliptical styli with my previous turntable which ceased working. Now I have that rich sound I had been missing - especially in the lower range! Installation can be a bit challenging, but as soon as you figure out the sweet spot where you need to position the Stylus and then push UP to have it make a CLICK, you're good to go!

I purchased the Sony PSLX300USB turntable approximately 5 months ago per the date of this review. I had just decided to renter the hifi stereo hobby and sought an entry level turntable. I was and still am pleased with the sound it produces. I had no intentions to seek any type of upgrade.However, a few months after I purchased the turntable, I read an online article about improving the sound of entry level equipment. Concerning turntables, one way of improvement was a possible stylus upgrade. Intrigued, I began to check on stylus upgrades for the Sony PSLX300USB. And that is how I discovered this product.There were and are several stylus upgrades available (both higher and lower in price) even though Sony uses a permanently attached cartridge. Note that a permanently attached cartridge is not unusual in entry level turntables especially when a straight tonearm is used.The various available stylus upgrades are the result of the choice of the cartridge. Sony went with a very popular Audio Technica magnetic cartridge. So, after I spent much time comparing specs and learning about the benefits of different stylus shapes which would work with this cartridge, I decided to make the change.After installation, and upon hearing the first few songs, it was obviously worth the investment. I could easily discern a wider range to the music, especially in the high end. The music appeared to sound brighter, while the lows “felt” a bit warmer. I could more easily discern the different instruments used to o produce the music. The separation was much better. The music felt more alive.With this upgraded stylus, the turntable’s level of performance was/is greatly increased.Highly recommend. If you own a Sony PSLX300USB (or it’s equivalent under a different name) and if you enjoy the benefits of HIFI music, this is a nice have upgrade.As always; with hifi equipment, one must consider the level that is being reviewed. Surely, concerning this stylus, it’s not close to an audiophile type stylus. But, for entry level equipment its a winner.

The best upgrade for my turntable! I'm rewriting this review from the last time I purchased this item because it deserves higher praise! I still have the last one I ordered, played 3 to 5 records a day! It's been 7 months now playing 3 to 5 records a day EVERYDAY, and it's still sounding amazing! I was playing around one day with a conical stylus I had (a very good one) , and swapped it just to do a comparison! I put on side 2 of "led zeppelins " "houses of the holy", and man, I heard the difference INSTANTLY! There were sounds that were missing with the conical, but easily revealed with this one! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! It made my little Sony sound like an audiophile set up!

Love it works great

This is my third needle in 2 or so years, and really my Sony turntable is not used a lot. The original needle did not last long and I bought a cheap replacement that lasted a couple of months. I am very happy with this purchase, the needle snapped in for a perfect fit. I am hoping for longevity, as the sound is superior to the original.
