I was impressed with the Glyph quality given the price
I like the Avegant Glyph for several reasons. Those reasons are:1- It’s lightweight. It’s very lightweight and comfortable to wear specially if you compare it to other head mounted devices out there.2- There aren’t a ton of cables. You can simply plug in the mini HDMI to HDMI and that’s that. Some other head mounted devices require that you connect a small box with the headset.3- It does the job for what I need it for. I use it as a monitor a lot. It’s comfortable enough to wear for hours. The picture quality is really good for the price. I had a higher end head mounted device with better picture quality but the weight on my head was just too much.4- Battery life. Great battery life. It lasts for about 4 hours, and it charges pretty fast when connected to the computer via its USB port. Sometimes I use it and charge it at the same time and it doesn’t overhead or anything. That was a big selling point for me because I have an oculus rift and thought of getting an oculus go, but the oculus go’s battery life is of only 2.5 hours. The Glyph surprised me with its battery life. The one thing I didn’t like much was the sound quality. It’s fine when you have something playing or when you’re playing a game, but if it’s not playing any audio you can hear a constant background noise coming from the headset. It doesn’t bother me that much, but I know other head mounted devices that don’t have that problem.Still, of all the head mounted devices I own this is the one I use the most, it’s comfortable, easy to set up, and has a very decent picture quality.

Under-engineered junk (A shame since the concept has potential)
The DLP is bright and the colors vibrant with great dynamic range (whites are white and blacks are black), but that's the ONLY positive thing about this product but that's just due to the quality of DLP chips selected, nothing Avegant accomplished. These worked without any issues with two different models of laptop, a Roku player and Roku stick. However, again, that's a low bar criteria since that simply means that the unit is halfway compliant with HDMI.The main issues: heavy, uncomfortable, extremely narrow field of view and after only having the product for 2 hours dust had already infiltrated the optics resulting in distracting floating smudges when viewing a dark or mid toned scene. The dust infiltration is due to the product being so slightly and cheaply made that what should be a robustly sealed body/optical path separates at the seams and allows debris in when the unit is flexed to be put on.The dust issue is the absolute dealbreaker issue. The DLP makes the visuals so good that the other issues could have been ignored/gotten used to. But, cloudy dust smudges in the field of view after less than 2 hours?! Are you, in fact, kidding me?!The electronics are so poorly shielded that there is a buzzing tone in the left earphone as a result. The concept of being able to look down and see other items and displays is great, but the field of view was so narrow I found I had to sit quite still, reclining back, or I was constantly adjusting the eyepieces. The narrow "field of view" may be a result of the images being projected directly onto the retina (rather than a screen like typical DLP). Again, retinal DLP? Amazing concept that gives great image quality, even at only 720p, but the narrow field of view detracts greatly from being able to completely enjoy viewing movies and other videos and forget about games.

Once properly set up the Glyph is really great
First off this is the international version of the Glyph and not the Founders edition. The instructions will be in Chinese (I think) but the English language manual can easily be found online. In terms of the App used with the Founders Edition to update, It is not needed for the International model as it ships fully updated. After buying the International edition I was curious if there were any major differences between that and the Founders model. I found a Founders Edition on eBay for a really great price ($100) so I bought it to compare.I'm happy to say that the screen quality is the same and other than a minor cosmetic difference (Founders has GLYPH printed on the headset where the International has AVEGANT) and price difference (most of the preowned Founders are listed on eBay from $200 - $400) they both have the same quality construction. The Glyph takes some patience with getting it set up. Getting the picture looking great takes a little time and some fiddling, but once you hit the sweet spot it's pretty cool. The picture even at 720p is amazing, nice and bright, the colors really pop and no pixels. The sound is great but just be warned the stock setting for volume is really loud so be sure to turn the volume down before you start a game or watch a video. There is no on screen image that shows a volume bar while setting it and your previous volume setting doesn't stay saved after you power the Glyph off. So everytime it's used the volume must be set.In terms of comfort I can see how some people aren't happy. For me personally (maybe because I use VR headsets) I didn't find it too uncomfortable. The nose pieces for me caused discomfort so I just use the stock rubber piece instead. I also get the best picture without the nose pieces so I suggest trying that out first. I bought the Glyph to use primarily for video games and it's great. Games look fantastic although there will be some getting used to the screen because of how it moves with your head rather than staying stationary. The battery life isn't so hot but I connect the fully charged Glyph to a 20000 mAh power bank I keep in my lap with a 3 foot USB cable. With that I can use it for several hours.I'm happy with the Glyph. It does what I needed it to do.

Devueltas.
