Go Away, Big Green Monster!

Face your fears
One reviewer said that this may introduce fears of monsters and other scary stuff to a child who hasn't already thought of it. That's the best... because then you don't have to deal with a long term problem, not the easiest stage to face it. Developmentally, they will sooner or later have fears of the unknown. The children I have read this book to have loved it... every one. The repetitive nature of saying, "Go away!" makes it endearing to small people, who are learning to predict from page to page. The construction of monster building and dismantling helps the children to face scary things, by letting them face the individual aspects one by one.In terms of plot, plot isn't necessarily important or relevant to very small children. Plot comprehension comes later. This is an excellent book for children who aren't ready for a simple plot and very entertaining for those older children who are.

Best Book for Preschool!!
This book was and (5months later) still is!!! My preschoolers with special needs LOVED the illustrations and the word repetition! And there is a GREAT "Go Away Big Green Monster" song on YouTube to go along with this book. We made monster masks to look exactly like the Big Green Monster as a craft. This book was a hit!

Beloved book
This book is so fun to read. I teach a mommy and me class and have young kids and every year this book is a hit. The little ones are captivated and love watching the monster disappear.

Big Green Monster is a hit!
Love this book. Got it in 1992 for my nephew and got it for his daughter in 2019. We still read it, and the girls, now 3 of them, giggle every time. Just purchased again for my niece's son, due this month.

My daughter loves these books!
Because of the monster stories on YouTube by Ed Amberley, my daughter asked for these books, she is autistic and it really influenced her to try to read the book and even ask for Me to buy it for her!!!So it is a super big plus for us!We own the big green monster and nighty night little green monster. And would love to get more. The book is really good quality, pictures are really cute and it is interactive so that makes us happy. And we read it every night it actually helps her get tired and get to bed!So thank you and Amberley for these books!

Empower your toddler (instead of tricking them with fairy spray and other ploys)
As long as you understand that toddlers love to grab and rip (so you either read it with them and keep them from ripping the die-cut pages or accept the fact that you may have to tape on the nose and other pieces if they get rough with the book), you will love this book! My 2 1/2 year old went through an "afraid of the dark" phase last summer and someone recommended this book. After lots of TLC, talks, more nightlights and reading this book, my daughter now LOVES monsters and giggles at the thought of them! She can read the book on her own just by looking at the images as they change (as you turn each page, the monster's features appear and then disappear). And I love it when she says "Go away big green monster and don't come back!" Very empowering to tell your little one that they can decide to tell the monsters to simply go away. Every child is different, but this one definitely worked for us!
