Belkin F5D4076 Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit

I've used this product for almost two years, and I just bought a second starter kit to hook up two more devices. It's really fast; there's no comparison with a wireless connection in terms of speed or the ability to connect.I noticed that many reviewers found that the product does not work, but I've had no problems. Be sure that you have the same firmware. If not, you can get it online. I noticed that all mine have v2011 written on the label. Another possible reason for problems is that even after you plug these Powerline adapters in to the A/C sockets, and you press the buttons on the two adapters, you still need to make sure that the router connects them to the network. I think some reviewers are not doing this step. On my configuration (a relatively new D-Link router), I press a button on the router, go to the PC or other device (such as a Ruku media streamer) and ask it to connect to the network. Alternatively, you need to enter some access codes to get to the router which is more involved. But on my router, pressing the button allows the Powerline to connect. This step is not explained in the instructions. That said, reviewers may have electrical box and circuitry problems that might cause connection problems.

This product works very well. Simple to install (under 3 minutes) and provides clean, fast, throughput.I highly recommend this product for those looking to run their machine on a wired connection without runningnew Cat 5 cable.

I received the sealed package from my Amazon order within a couple of days. This was the only thing good about the order.After receiving the package I unpacked it and found the 2 units, Quick start guide and registration card.I registered the product online. Then I went about installing the 2 adapters.The speed was horrible. Less than 19Mbs. I figured it could be my house wires. So I moved the 2 units into the same room and on the same circuit as a test. Not much better up to 25MBs and this was with the blue indicator light on both units that says your thoughput should be greater than 200MBs.I then contacted Belkin support.They told me to download the FW upgrader. I then upgraded the FW per Belkin support.This did not fix anything.I had then asked them as a test. If there is a way I can turn off the security feature. He said that I could use the Belkin Homeplug application that came on the CD in the BOX. I told him there was no CD supplied. I asked him if he could send me one. Or provide me with a link to download the application. He then told me someone would have to get back to me. Well I waited a week with no response. So I called again. This person told me. NO CD is supplied because the current version of Homeplug does not work with the powerline HD adapters. I should return them to the place I bought them for exchange. I told him that I bought them from Amazon. Amazon says you need to speak to Belkin for return. He says. No that I need to speak to Amazon. Round and Round we go.Well in any case. I turned this mess over to my CC people. They credited my account until I guess they can confirm all this. (60 to 90 days). We see where we can go from here.But. I'm warning everyone. Please do not buy Belkin products. We will never buy anything from Belkin again.

Initial issues with factory firmware... but after update: WOW, these work GREAT!!!EDIT: About a year, and going strong, with current firmware: rock solid.We never even have to power-cycle them!For $27 this was a GREAT buy, but I see them listed at $55+ now because of the reviews?It turns out there is a firmware update for the factory rev of "22207" I received, to "2.022 (svn: 27221 branch: 0)", which was easily done just by running Belkin Upgrade util. for this model, but they have to be on the same network as the device doing the upgrade, so do the extended one first, as it will not gain an internet connection until both are upgraded and power-cycled.Not one problem since the Firmware update!I really had my doubts, but after the firmware update these are pretty rock-solid!

While the product worked, the speed varied greatly depending on where the two units were plugged in. Distance in the house was not a factor, in fact the worst performance was observed when the two units were in the same room. In most cases the speed was less than that of a wireless connection.Just keep in mind that your mileage will vary depending on the electrical system you are plugging into. In my case I could have achieve similar results at a lesser price with a non-gigabit product.

I purchased this with the hope that I would be able to hard wire my PS3 into my network because the wireless signal was poor in that particular location. The setup and installation of these was extremely simple, you basically plug them in. I was never able to get this to work with the PS3. I can connect my laptops to the same connection and get great speed. I am consistantly getting between 400-500Mbs for computer to computer transfers which is great for my media sever but the PS3 can never get a connection.I worked with Belkin for over a week and they had several suggestions that I tried and they didn't work. Thier final suggestion was to buy another router and hook the router up to the Powerline adapter. I am sure that will work but it is another piece of hardware. My opinion is that it has to do with the unusual encryption that is standard to the device. Not the enhanced encryption that you can turn o nbut the base level 56bit encrytion that you cannot turn off. I could be wrong but that seems to be the only variable. If I have success in the future I will update this.

This device is everything it says it is. I am getting great internet speed everywhere in the house. And if you have concerns about power consumption when not in use, simply unplug from the wall. It reinitializes quickly. Great buy for my needs.
