Actually worked. Down fluffed right back up too when I used their wash first.
Wow. Not totally waterproof but light rain beads up and I can brush it off before it soaked in much.

Nikwax Down Proof gives nice results
I bought a Marmot down ultralight that did not come with DWR unfortunately. But I tried Nikwax after comparing it to Grangers and deciding Nikwax to be the better option. I am very happy with the results. A couple things to note. Because we have a top loading washing machine (not a front load as suggested) and because of some reviews saying this can leave a residue in the washer, I decided to hand wash the down proof into the jacket. I also washed a Marmot featherlite with a down alternative fill that also didn’t come with DWR, and maybe didn’t need it because it wasn’t down like the first jacket, but it was for my son who would roll in the snow and wanted to try the product out on it too. I used half a bottle each, or 5 oz each. A few things to note, a few reviews said this would be splotchy if there was any dirt on the jacket or washing machine. Yet, I used a clean clear plastic storage tub inside my bath tub and both jackets were new and clean. I followed the instructions and the results still looked splotchy. I was really bummed at first, but then I realized that in letting it soak as instructed, the jacket was floating and water with DWR was not touching the jacket well where there was trapped air under the jacket, not giving even coverage across the jacket. So I agitated it with my arm and let it soak in a different way on the jacket. Agitating and soaking a little longer than required allowed for even coverage and removed all splotches. I doubt a font load machine would allow for as many air pockets as a hand wash, but it still has to sit and soak and would probably float the same. I wonder if this is part of the reason others had splotchy results who claimed their jacket and machine were clean to begin with. Both jackets I did the same way, then I dried them on low with 3 tennis balls and they came out fluffy and great! I haven’t had a lot of water on them, but what I have tried has beaded up and done well. In addition, I did not find any residue left over in the plastic bucket like I thought may happen based on a different review. I would recommend this to anyone who needs DWR on a down jacket.

Great! Works very Well- Get the Wool Balls For DRYING AND IT WILL LOOK NEW!
I did my home work and found an article about washing & waterproofing your Down Jacket - And I read all the reviews...Still My down jacket is something I love. I Followed all the directions - I had a big plastic container that fit in my tub. I wouldn't lie - I was nervous and after following all washing instruction using the same brand name as the waterproofing - I was scared- my jacket felt flat, like all the down disintegrated - But I Kept On - It could Only get Better - So finish the wash Getting Out Amazing Stains I thought were impossible - And I took the advice to get wool balls - I got the BIG Ones it came with 6!! So I rinsed the jacket , still flat.....Then I followed to the letter Nikwax Down Proofing. My jacket is old and I was getting wet when it rain. But No More - It Waterproofed It! It a long time going through this process - But I'm Glad I did it - It's Like New - I Highly Suggest You Use These Products - And End with a dryer and These 6 Large Wool Balls , Directions set you drive with no heat or very very low heat....It took 4 hours to dry and after 2 hours my jacket was still completely FLAT - the next hour it Bunched up and was very UnEven - But it 2 more hours it Was As A New Jacket! Don't Give Up on The Process or the Directions - Read All The Reviews. And I suggest you Hand Wash Very Gently - no twisting - And Rince....In Your Bathtub. I think washer machines might damage the gentle down. IT'S WORTH IT!!! AND IT'S WORTH ALL THE TIME AND WORK TOO - TO SAVE YOUR FAVORITE JACKET

Works, some side effects
I have a down coat that I wash about once a year with the Nikki wax wash (love it). I decided to waterproof too, it before a trip abroad. Despite following the directions, including putting it in the dryer with tennis balls, it changed the texture of the down in my coat. Overall it was fine, just different. There was one area in this sleeve that state bunched up, the feathers got kind of lumpy there. It also had a very bad odor for a couple of days after the process. The coat is still usable, and it did a good job of waterproofing. But I felt a little annoyed at the smell and texture issue.

Worked like a charm on my stained North Face down puffer jacket
Accidentally dropped my jacket on a dirty floor while on vacation, was really worried that it would be ruined but after some research I bought this and purchased some wool laundry balls. I used this detergent on the delicate cycle in my washer, then used my dryer with low heat and laundry balls and it came out amazing. Previously I had washed this jacket before using normal detergent and normal dryer cycle, that caused the jacket to lose most of its puffiness and I had to use my hands to move the down inside around to get back some of the puffiness which took a long time. After the washing and drying, it came out looking brand new, this jacket is several years old and used almost daily in the winter by the way.

Follow instructions clearly
Terrified to try, but it cleaned up some expensive pure down garments. Take your time with the instructions and air dry, slowly separate the down and it will be worth the effort
