Really well made, great gift.
I purchased this as a gift for my daughter who requested one for her birthday. I had never heard of them before but what a great idea. Been around for decades! It keeps butter fresh out of the fridge. I want one for myself now.

Perfection
Oh wow! Love this SOOO much I just had to get another! It works! simple but it works, butter is soft, fresh (you must change the water regularly) and you really get the taste of the butter and it’s spreadable. Perfection!

Old technology - fabulous!
Talking with a friend about organic products, we thought of butter and the drawback of having to keep organic butter (or any butter for that matter) in the fridge and it being hard as nails when you want a smitch for your toast. I asked my mum how things were done in the days before fridges were commonplace and she said butter used to be kept in water so it remained fresh. It didn't take me long to come across the butter bell which is such a simple idea but now, every time I reach for the butter I am so thankful I have this little pot to hand. It's perfect, although a little small for a family perhaps, as it only takes about have a pack of butter at a time but I am sure almost anyone would love this fabulous addition to your kitchen worktop. I'm buying a few as Christmas gifts. I would recommend this to anyone; it's brilliant!

Novel idea
It works well, preserves the butter. Wished it held more but would then be too heavy to be practical.

It is one of the best things I have ever bought for the kitchen
It is one of the best things I have ever bought for the kitchen, it is just the right size for the two of us, the butter stays soft and fresh. I change the water each morning after doing breakfast as then I don't have to think when did I do it last. Over the last couple of days the weather has had a change for the better but the butter has stayed perfect. It's a great invention. My only downside is the colour I really wanted was out of stock but this still looks fine on my work top.

Loving it
Love my butter bell. Looks great in the kitchen and keeps the butter perfectly fresh and just soft enough to spread. Glad I treated myself!

Have your butter and spread it
I bought one of these some years ago when in the states and unfortunately broke it last year. I have been looking for a replacement for some time when I came across this on amazon. It's perfect - it actually fits more butter in the lid than my previous one. Simple idea and, as I much prefer butter to spreadable margarine, I love that it keeps it fresh and easy to spread . Looks good too.

ha ha a little humor. all jokes aside, this is a great little butter crock. At first I didn't understand how it could keep butter fresh until I see the butter stands in the water. Works great. butter stays soft and ready to use. great purchase and would recommend to anyone who uses butter frequently.

I have several ceramic butter crocks, but this one is probably my favorite. It is easy to refill, and it functions perfectly so far. Perhaps the best feature is the comparatively hefty weight of the upper part of the unit, which is solid and heavy and signifies quality. This was an excellent purchase that does exactly what it is supposed to do and looks great while doing it. Thanks.

A beautiful and functional ornament for the kitchen. This is a classic and well constructed piece with good aesthetics. It is large enough to hold about one stick of butter. It is used in conjunction with water in the base which help to preserve the butter - so make sure you don’t skip this step. We leave it on our counter and the butter has perfect softness and freshness, and we typically will keep it about one week on the counter without any issues.

The butter bell crock has been a source of conversation since I've purchased it. It must be because it seems exotic since it's not like a typical butter dish, but I really like it as it keeps the butter soft and spreadable while keeping it cool. Being conscientious about keeping the water fresh every day is important, but it is so much easier to keep up with than a covered butter dish. The red is as pictured and is bright and deep - not orange or maroon, but RED. The crock is sturdy and can withstand the dishwasher although I hand wash mine. My family has been so funny about this and continues to invent different ways of bringing it up - "you do know they make covered dishes for butter" - "doesn't the water make it mushy?" I've even found it in the refrigerator after they've come by for a visit! I suppose you could keep it in the fridge if you wanted, but it really isn't necessary. It's so pretty and sits on the kitchen counter next to my red salt and pepper shakers and always has fresh, cool, spreadable butter whenever needed! UPDATE (July 2016) I finally found the photos! See how GROSS the butter dish was? Thank GOODNESS that mess is gone now. I LOVE LOVE LOVE "The Bell" as we call it. Also, a postscript, I've had this little cutie on my counter for years now and I'm not kidding about how my parents ASK about it every time! It's almost like an in joke between my husband and I because there is an unspoken smile we exchange each time this has happened. The Bell is like new, very sturdy, no chips or fading! I would buy one in EVERY color if I could, lol!
