This is my first ship, so I’m not sure if it’s for beginners or advanced. The instructions are somewhat vague in places. You really have to pay attention to every detail. The quality is very nice and I can’t wait to see if I can actually build this.

The instructions are minimal, but if you research "how to build model ships" before starting this model then you'll have all you need. Excellent detail for the wood parts. The version with the brass cannons and cherry details is well worth the money. The hulling planking is pre-cut to give the correct tapering to each plank. This makes the planking a breeze. A bit more detail in things like blocks, bits and different weights of cords would make for better detailing. I happened to have lots of left-over parts from other ships I've built. And I choose to build this as a US Revenue Cutter. Crew figurines were sourced elsewhere (1/96 Civil War Navy Figurines).

I wish I had read the reviews prior to getting this model. The instructions are written poorly. Pictures are inaccurate pieces are missing and the pieces that support the lines for the sails are impossible to use you can’t drill because it’s too small of a hole required for these little pieces. They don’t push in, which makes this useless. Wish I never got it.

Having not built a wood model ship in over 20 years, I was impressed with the quality and detail on the wooden parts. Directions are sufficient but may be tough for a beginner to understand. It will be months before complete. Sure it will be fine.

Fun to play with but most of the pieces don't fit. You have to manipulate things to fill in the gaps
