On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep Review: This book is WONDERFUL!!!! - This is the BEST baby book I've read. I would highly recommend it. This book teaches how your baby will naturally sleep through the night by following the simple routine of: baby eats, baby has awake time, and then baby sleeps. It's so simple. It's not any type of a strict routine. You read your baby's signals, but at the same time teach the baby to eat, play and sleep in blocks of time. Then your baby will naturally sleep through the night. It's that simple, and it has helped me so much. When I had my first son, I had not heard of this book. I thought I was doing the best thing by demand feeding, co-sleeping etc. Unfortunately, that resulted in my son not being able to sleep through the night until he was one year old, eating multiple times at night, and needing someone to lie down next to him so he could get to sleep. What in the world was I thinking!! He could have been sleeping through the night in his crib by 3 months old. Instead, I was totally sleep deprived having to wake up throughout the night to feed him, give him a pacifier, or by simply being awakened by his constant restless sleeping. I now have 4 month old TWINS, which both sleep through the night in their cribs. Life with twins (and now my first son is two) and using the BabyWise method is soooooo much easier than when I had my son and was using Attachment Parenting methods. Its amazing. I didn't read Babywise until the twins were about 8 weeks old. I was feeling stressed and had no structure for the babies. I was just trying to "get through the day." One of the babies would cry every 2 hours, and I kept thinking he must be hungry. Then I would feed him, but he wouldn't eat much and then he'd cry again 2 hours later. After reading the book, I learned exactly what the problem was: my son was tired, not hungry. He was waking up from his nap too early and needed to sleep longer. I don't know what I would have done without this book. Now when one of my babies cry, I know exactly what the problem is. And actually they rarely ever cry. As the book explains, just like you and me, when babies get a good night sleep they feel refreshed and happy the next day. My babies are rarely EVER grumpy or fussy. I've had so many people act amazed at how content and happy they are. I then just explain to them the simple routine of eat-play-sleep from BabyWise. Some people act like "the baby knows best," but they don't! They're just a baby. You as the parent need to help teach the baby how to sleep. If people claim their baby wasn't getting enough to eat, then they were not following the book. The book clearly teaches you if and when there is a problem. My babies are chunky, alert and happy. Now, when I read about parents demand feeding and co-sleeping, I just feel sorry for them because they're making life a lot more difficult for themselves. Eventually they won't want their kids sleeping in bed with them anymore and then the little guys don't know how to go to sleep on their own. When my twins start yawning, I just lie them down in their cribs and they go to sleep. I don't have to "help" them get to sleep. And demand feeding....CRAZY. You're just teaching your baby to snack all day and night. Then the baby doesn't get a good sleep and so they wake up cranky and tired and want to sooth themselves by eating again. Its a bad cycle. This book really is amazing. There are also other books in the series that target specific baby ages, as they get older. I would also recommend Baby Whisperer by Hogg, but only as a supplement to BabyWise. Baby Whisperer is not complete about the specifics of the eat-play-sleep routine. Don't get mislead about some of the Ezzo bashing. Its ridiculous and has nothing to even do with the content of the book. I've noticed that a lot of demand feeding parents don't like to be reminded that they or their babies are not sleeping through the night! Review: The Holy Grail of Sleep Training - I ordered this book so that my wife and I could be prepared for the birth (and sleep!) of our first born child. Let me start by stating that I have not read other books on the art of sleep training infants; Baby Wise is merely one method that my wife and I have found success with. Let me also say that Baby Wise may not work for you, so I would encourage parents to find what method works for you. However, I would also encourage parents to find a method that ensures that your child will sleep through the night from an early age. This is for the parents sake and the child's, as numerous studies have shown that both parents and children function better when baby is sleeping well. So find a good system that your child can thrive in with regards to sleep. Baby wise is an outstanding book for getting your infant to sleep through the night, and from an early age to boot! The book offers several helpful tips and guidelines for using the Baby wise system. One very helpful chapter is chapter two: feeding philosophies. My, was this chapter eye opening. Being a male, I was totally unaware of the various breast feeding philosophies and techniques out there. Chapter two enlightens the reader to various philosophies surrounding feeding and its relation to good nighttime sleep. The philosophies are: Clock feeding (behaviorism); Child-led feeding (neo-primitivism); and parent-directed feeding (espoused by the Baby Wise authors). Each philosophy is surveyed and then held up against Baby Wise. The rest of the book then builds on this initial foundation by guiding parents through the various steps of the Baby Wise method. Feeding cues, infant sleep, and a myriad of other topics are addressed through out the book that will help parents understand their child's individuality and its relation to their sleeping habits. The overall point seems clear: infants need sleep (18-22 hours for newborns) as this is when they will do the most growing and re-energizing. In turn, this will also greatly benefit the parents, as they too will be more energized and rested in order to keep up with their bundle of joy. The most helpful chapters are chapter 5 and 6, which offer the reader a look at managing your baby's day and their sleep cycle. If for nothing else, I would highly recommend that parents read chapters 2, 5, and 6 because of how eye-opening and informative they are. For my wife and I, Baby Wise helped us adjust to the nighttime hours at first and understand that it was all part of the process and hopefully a very small window. By 7 weeks, our daughter was sleeping through the night; and I don't mean 4-5 straight hours, I'm talking 9-10 straight hours of sleep. She has been on the schedule ever since (now almost 7 months old) and we have never experienced melt downs, over fussiness, extended periods of crying, or really a general lack of sleep. In the end, Baby Wise may not be for you, but I would recommend that every parent at least give it a try and see if it's right for their child. Overall, this book is for any parent looking to get their child sleeping through the night consistently from a young age, and what parent wouldn't want that? I highly recommend Baby Wise and my wife and I will use it for future children.

Such a great resource in helping my baby to sleep through the night which meant I could get sleep. This new condensed ebook is to the point with many links back to a website giving me more expanded information. Recommend this to anyone having a baby! It certainly gave me confidence as a parent.

I used an early edition of this book 30 years ago when my first daughter was born. It was absolutely fantastic then in giving real practical advice on how to train your baby to sleep through the night and give some routine to your day (to keep you sane and your baby healthy). I have bought it for all close friends expecting babies ever since, as i feel it is the best gift you can give a new parent. Both my children slept through the night at 8 weeks old and I have just bought the latest edition for my now pregnant firstborn daughter. She can’t wait to read it to find out what you actually do when you take a baby home and to make sure her baby sleeps at night! The latest edition is even better than ever with so much useful information and guidance! The book is American but don’t let that put you off - the authors are highly experienced and qualified medical professionals, firmly grounded in the real world, with humility and humour.

Me ayudó mucho para darme una guía de qué esperar con mi bebé y qué rutinas puedo introducir dependiendo de las semanas.
