Are these good for Embroidery?

I use it for counted cross stitch, but I would think it would be ok. I would start with a smaller piece first, just to see if it’s what you want. You can always order a bigger piece if it works for you.

Is the color more like DMC 746 than cream?

I would say it's a true cream color fabric. Just like standard Charles Craft Aida you would buy in a store
