One Day

Really enjoyed reading the book, it one of those stories where you want to know what happens next. Light read!

It is fun to get to know a character through a book and feel every thing for them.The story takes off slowly and makes us feel moved with each of them undergoing different experiences in life. I have watched the movie too but the book is definitely the best. The thought process of each of the characters while undergoing a situation is very neatly written ,thus makes you feel normal for what you have in your mind. Loved it.

I have given the book 5 stars because of the overwhelming effect it created on me. This literary journey features our main characters on a fixed day for twenty years : a very unique way to portray the different attributes of friendship and other emotions. The strongest point of this book is the characters, not only the main characters the other smaller characters who create the perfect foil to the plot. I will not discuss the storyline as I firmly believe that this is going to act as a spoiler : but I have liked the way the author has delineated how friendship evolves over time. The book also shows that being true to ourself, accepting each other and by sharing meaningful experience relationship is surely going to cast a different meaning on life. A beautiful book and of course a must read.

Perfect packaging

The condition of the book is not bad if not very good. I dont like the cover though. The one which is being displayed by amazon. It's great but not so great because it creates a dull sense of mood which waters down the experience of the novel inspite of the terrific reviews mentioned on it. Coming to the novel, the story is narrated through third person, narrating the events in one day (15th July), year after year after year. And that's a great great great great REAALLLYYY GREAATTT!!!! thought from this writer which works damn well as a literary technique. There's nothing more beautiful than twisting the span and timelines of the story in a novel. But, that hasn't helped me to keep reading to be honest. Because, though i like fiction of any sort, especially when it takes place in different timelines, too much young-adult-kind-of-thing bores me. Partly the dull cover has affected my imagining of things and characters inside the novel i should say. And partly the young-adult-kind-of-thing made me stop reading while I finished only one chapter of the book. (Before u call me names sayin how do i judge it before I finish it, let me tell you, the first chapter is nearly 100 pages). And I'm quite satisfied with the way the sorry has been developed and told by the narrator untill the end of the firat chapter. It's just that I don't feel like craving for still more story progression in some more extend timelines os the story. Other than that it's more than the three stars I gave it. But because of its failure to make me read and pass through the young adult phase to some other phase of the story of the characters, I'm cutting the two Stars off. So, that's a three star read for people with my taste. And definitely you who r reading this, if u like what u came to know about it, then it's just fine, u can go ahead! Ciao 🖐️

For the first time, I would have to say I found the series better than the book..an ordinary typical story of best friends falling in love but the intensity of characters as portrayed in the series has made me rate this book as 4 :)

Amazing book!!

Disastrously Beautiful ! It made me cry and laugh and everything in between . DEFINITELY my favourite book now. David Nicholls is such an amazing writer . Told in a real simple way .. yet beautiful. The characters and the story will remain with you forever .

One day - Ein Tag im Leben zweier Menschen, die unterschiedlicher nicht sein können will man meinen. Ihre unterschiedlichen Charaktere, ihre verschiedenen Interessen, ihre unterschiedlichen Pläne für die Zukunft. Das Buch beginnt im Jahr 1988 mit Dexter und Emma, am Abend ihrer Highschool Graduation. Und bereits am Anfang wird klar, welche unterschiedlichen Vorstellungen diese beiden Hauptdarsteller von ihrem Leben haben. Dexter als Frauenheld will mit jeder ins Bett, die nicht bei drei auf dem Baum ist und Emma ist eher eine graue Maus, durchaus gebildet und intelligent mit einem guten Abschluss, jedoch - das merkt man schnell - eigentlich nicht Dexters Beuteschema. Im Folgenden erzählt Nicholls die Geschichten dieser beiden Menschen immer am gleichen Tag, dem 15. Juli. Immer im darauffolgenden Jahr. Und im Jahr danach. Und danach. Durch diese Erzählweise bekommt man immer mit, was im letzten Jahr passiert ist und wie sich diese jungen Menschen entwickeln und ihr Leben sich ergibt. Nicholls schafft es, dass sich der Leser mit den Protagonisten anfreundet. Mir sind diese beiden Menschen sehr nah gegangen, ihre Leistungen, Schicksale, Erlebnisse habe ich miterlebt. Die große Stärke des Buchs ist m. E., dass man sich als Leser immer wieder in die Lage von Emma und Dex hineinversetzt und überlegt "Wie würde ich handeln?". 20 Jahre lang erlebt man also das Leben zweier Personen hautnah mit. Geschichten, die wirklich wahr sein könnten. Die wirklich passiert sein können. 20 Jahre lang begleitet man die Menschen durch all ihre Höhen und Tiefen. Und kann dabei das Buch nicht weglegen. Im Zeitraffer werden Leben erzählt und man möchte immer wissen, was passiert in der Zwischenzeit. Wie steht's um die beiden Heute in einem Jahr? Und diese Spannung schafft Nicholls sehr gut aufzubauen und auch immer wieder aufrecht zu erhalten. Wer das Buch noch nicht gelesen hat, sei jetzt vor Spoilern gewarnt. :) Das Ende des Buchs ist eine weitere Stärke von One Day. Nachdem man die beiden nun so lange im ihrem Leben begleitet hat, stellt Nicholls jetzt die Frage, wie das Leben nach dem überraschenden Tod des Partners weitergeht. Der Tod trifft den Leser genauso unvermittelt wie jeden anderen Charakter des Buchs. Und man wird mit so vielen Dingen gleichzeitig konfrontiert. Wie geht's weiter? Ohne den Partner? Was soll aus dem Leben werden? Aber auch die subtile Warnung an alle, wie schnell das Leben vorbei sein kann. Die Phrase "Lebe jeden Tag als wäre es Dein letzter", so abgedroschen sie ist, wird dadurch ganz nah, fühlbar und, ja, schön! Und hier liegt einfach eine weitere, absolute Stärke des Buchs. Nicholls behandelt in Zeitsprüngen und Rückblicken, wie Dex mit Ems Tod umgeht, wie er sein Leben weiterlebt, kurz davor ist, an all dem kaputt zu gehen. Wie er sich immer wieder an Sie erinnert. Und es ist das erste und letzte Mal im Buch, dass an einem anderen Tag erzählt wird, nämlich am 16. Juli. Jetzt bekommt der Leser erst eine Ahnung davon, was nach der Abschlussnacht passiert ist und wie Dex und Em es schafften, weiter in Kontakt zu bleiben, wie Em Dex' Eltern kennenlernte, und wie sie sich auf unbestimmte Zeit verabschiedeten. Mir ist das Buch sehr nah gegangen, es wirkt nach und ich habe das ein oder andere Mal Schlucken müssen. Es hat mich sehr nachdenklich gemacht und inspiriert mich, manche Themen für mein Leben wieder aufzugreifen und darüber nachzudenken. Wie möchte ich mein Leben leben? Wie werde ich glücklich? Was möchte ich erreichen? Es sind große Fragen, die Nicholls in einer schönen Geschichte behandelt und es dennoch schafft, mit Witz und Wortgewandtheit nie langweilig zu werden einen subtilen Humor, teils auch zwischen den Zeilen, zu versprühen. Ich habe das Buch in englischer Sprache gelesen. Leicht verständlich, einfache und klare Sprache. Wirklich toll. Für dieses Buch bleibt mir kein Stern, den ich nicht vergeben möchte. 5 Sterne sind absolut angebracht und das Buch ist in jedem Fall empfehlenswert! Es ist kein klassischer Liebesroman - es ist mehr! Bittersüß, wie auch ein anderer Rezensent bereits schrieb, ist eine perfekte Stimmungsbeschreibung des Buchs.

Sobre el contenido, es un libro muy bueno, a mi me encantó. Respecto al formato, las cubiertas del libro son como de papel cartón, bastante flexibles y se doblan con facilidad. Se queda un poco la forma de doblada, pero no muy exagerado como me ha pasado con otros libros, eso si ,en las zonas de lomo se desgastan con facilidad dado que no esta como plastificado, la textura es como papel tipo papel cartón, mejor plastificarlo si quieres que se mantenga bien.
