Two Great Movies from My Childhood
Sub-Zero is really a two part episode from Batman: The Animated Series from the 90s which focus alot on Barbara Gordon and one of the underrated complex villians of the Batman universe Mr. Freeze who steals what he needs in order to save his beloved wife's life who suffers from a rare disease. This was one of my favorite episode as a kid because it focus on Batgirl and I like how Dick and Barbara date and fight crime as civilians and also as their alter egos. One of my favorite scene was the date scene when Dick fights off Mr. Freeze's minions trying to kidnap Barbara and tries to chase them down on the bike scene. I miss the cool action scenes in the cartoons from the 80s and 90s. It was a great story. However, I really purchased this DVD for one of my favorite Batman movies Mask of the Phantasm. This is both a masked crusader movie and an origin Batman movie. It focus on the relationship of Bruce and his former flame Andrea. The one woman he would have given up his cape to marry. The movie perfectly blends the past and present day. Even though it's an animated movie, the issues were adult and it treated the fans with intelligent. The score was stunning. Animation beautifully drawn. The backdrop of Gotham City gorgeous. This was the first animated Batman movies and it was a masterpiece. Some of my favorite scenes were the cute meeting between Bruce and Andrea, Bruce fighting off thieves from stealing and when he leaps on top of that motorcycle to punch the bad guy. Bruce's inner conflict of wanting to avenge his parents but still wanting to live a normal life. The two timer old timer scene with the Joker or the love scene between Andrea and Bruce. This movie had so many awesome scenes I still relish from my childhood to adulthood. One of the best movies period with an ill fated love and bittersweet but poignant ending and an amazing score and soundtrack capturing the feel of the movie. If you love The Dark Knight, this is among the best Masked Detective stories

Superior SubZero blasts lackluster Batman & Robin
As a huge Batman fan I actually missed this one when it originally came out because I was so focused on the "Batman & Robin" film which was extremely disappointing. As of late I have stayed away from live action Batman and have really been digging into the animated library and I must say SubZero is a true gem. The storyline here is much stronger than the live action, Victor Fries has more depth (as the character development was superior here) Most notably was the absence of cheesy lines from Mr. Freeze and the writers made me care about this character. I wish DC would have just released this instead of Batman & Robin. There are three reasons this movie left such a lasting impression on me 1) We didn't see much of Batman this time around (which was actually okay for me) mainly because the screenwriters/voice actors created such an emotional connection with Mr. Freeze that had me wanting him captured in the beginning but feeling sincere empathy for him & his wife later. For a Batman movie with rare screen time of the Caped Crusader, its nothing short of amazing that this film was able to keep my interest. 2) They didn't try to go overtop. There was never a time where something from the animated film reminded me of the live action or vice versa. I was able to accept both versions of the movie for what they are. This feature was great because I was able to understand Freeze's motivation behind his actions better than Batman & Robin. 3) Nobody felt out of place in this movie. Everybody served a purpose in helping push the story forward. Overall this movie was brilliant, I received it in 3 days, the voice acting is stellar & this further validates the reason Batman is the greatest superhero of all time. He has the best villains, most entertaining stories and "where does he get those wonderful toys?" 5 Stars

Sheer excellence.
Sadly lives in the shadow of the more popular Bat movie: "The Mask of the Phantasm". This is certainly no slouch. While that one is a personal Bruce Wayne story, this is Mr. Freeze's.Highlight: Tight narrative and fantastic characterization with no wasted scenes, when the runtime is just slightly over 60 mins!A must-watch if you're a fan of Batman: The Animated Series, or just well-written movies that focus on antagonists in general.

This movie is the official end of an era.
When Batman The Animated series premiered I don't think anyone realized how influential this series would be. It took elements from the Burton films but ultimately fleshed out it's own universe. In doing so the series reworked characters from the Batman mythos in remarkable ways. Probably the best example of this is the portrayal of the Batman Villain, Mr. Freeze. Freeze was an intimidating presence with his cold monotone voice and design. Yet, thanks to some great writing, you get to see that he was once something more. Thru out the original run of the series you got to see the torment Freeze endured. The soft tone of almost eerie Christmas music would play over falling snow or ice. Seeing this you nestled in because the story of Freeze was so many things. But unlike other stories with Batman's villains there was never a light moment or some silly joke with Freeze. It was serious drama and the story never talked down to kids. Batman Subzero came out right before BTAS went thru a redesign. In doing so many of the elements that made the series so popular changed a bit. Subzero is a fitting end to the original run because it gives its most unique story a proper and climatic closure. It allows the saga of Mr. Freeze to come to a finale in its beautifully tortured way within the original run. And in doing so it gives one final goodbye to an time passed. There will always be new stories to tell about these characters but for those who heard the haunting intro of BTAS for the first time in their childhood...this will always hit home. This is an excellent movie to watch as the snow hits your window outside.

Conforme à mes attentes
Parfait.
