No, you just compare the samples -- too many folks call the same color by different names.

Q: Can these colors be matched to pantone colors codes?

I’m sure they could but it would be an enormous time commitment

I guess you could, but it would be difficult finding every shade/tone of each color in fabric. The swatch fan is a compact collection of colors that can be conveniently carried, and open and closed easily while shopping.

Q: Are these cardboard, plastic or fabric on cardboard?

None of the above? The cover and rear pieces are definitely plastic. I guess (guess) the color pieces are very thin cardboard. While none of them are fabric-covered, the surface texture varies: some feel like shiny plastic, some feel like paint chips, and some have almost a woven texture. Wait! I lie. I have the Summer and 9 of these are actually fabric-covered. Let me just say that I THOUGHT I knew my colors well from the book, but I was wrong and this is helpful.

Fabulous!

A brilliant tool to save time and money when shopping. This swatch contains all of the colours that suit me and helps to stop me from making unsuitable purchases.I have only had this for a couple of days but it is to replace a larger one that took up too much space in my handbag. I have yet to see weather the colours do come off as mentioned in other reviews.
