Great book with variety; helpful index provided in this post to append to book

Great book with a variety of good lessons in a wide range of openings. Exercises help you to master the types of tactics that arise in various lines.Only caveat is that there is no index, and that some of the ECO classifications are wrong or misleading (i.e. there is a transposition later into a main line that is probably of more interest to most people), though much of this is a flaw in the ECO system itself. However, I have created an index which I put here below, organized by ECO Code, followed by description of opening, followed by the game numbers/days in which the opening appears in the book. I hope this is helpful to customers of this great book!ECO Opening/Variation Game/Day---- --------------------- -------------A00 Irregular Openings 106, 108, 325A01 Nimzo-Larsen Attack 359A04-A06 Reti Opening without 2. g3 or 2. c4 101, 111, 365A07-A08 Reti Opening with 2. g3 51, 227, 326, 327, 361A09 Reti Opening with 2. c4 55, 220A10-A14 English Opening – 1…c6, 1…e6, etc. 341, 350, 352A15-A16 English Opening – Anglo-Indian without 2. Soltis smacks another HR.

HI! My name is A.J. Goldsby and I recently purchased this book. One of the better chess books of the last 10-20 years!!!!! I am a Life Master at chess ... and I am learning new things from this book! That means if you are even better than the average player, then you will learn a lot too!

Great book for reinforcing your chess knoledge-fills in gaps we all have

Like the lesson format. I teach chess in an after school enrichment program and it works well with my advanced beginners. Clear examples and explanations

Valuable learning tool.

I've always been impressed the the teaching potential of Andy Soltis's books. This particular format seems ideally suited for imparting lessons to club-level players. Soltis aims his comments at intermediate and beginning players which is the level of difficulty I sought when choosing this book.
