I have a few raspberry pis inside and outside of the house for security using Arducams and Makerfocus cams. The infrared LEDs on these die pretty fast with my use case (about a year). These make for excellent replacement LEDs - definitely beats having to buy the whole camera again.

The adjustable resistor is described as “controlling the ambient light threshold of toggling the infrared LED”. But it just adjusts the brightness of the IR light. That might not matter for you but it’s worth knowing before you buy.I wired one to a 3-AAA carrier to use as a miniature portable IR lantern. The 3 AAA’s are able to run it for at least 12 hours.UPDATE 1: I switched to using a DC power supply, running the lights at 3 volts to keep them cooler and hopefully increase their longevity.UPDATE 2 (4-Aug-22): one of the two IR LED's burned out within six weeks.

These lights actually cannot be connected to Raspberry Pi camera. As you can see on the photo, the screw holes do not match Raspberry Pi camera. These are essentially IR cans you attach to your Pi camera and are powered through the camera's board, which is powered via the Raspberry Pi itself. Two screws hold each in place and they're ready to go. I tested these in a closet and the results were great. When I used them in real life (outside), they produce a red-hued image at ~6' since the emitters are actually using visible spectrum red light. Also, obviously these do not cast the light very far so if you're >10', these probably won't work for you.These produce some heat and I've seen other ones with aluminum sinks to dissipate, so keep that in mind, too.Overall, great for project work but if you're looking for more familiar black/white IR, grab something else.

Misleading title, as these do NOT work with the official raspberry pi camera (mine is the v3 NOiR). The mounting holes don’t line up, and the camera doesn’t have power at the mounting hole anyway. I should have checked that.However, for only $7 I’ll print some sort of mounting and figure out how to get power to them.
