A great way to practice thinking in signs.
Not so much a text book but helps with thinking in sentences.

Helping my husband learn sign!
I'm partially deaf and have been teaching my husband sign. Though it is a kids level book it has helped him keep conversations with me in sign and is very accurate to what I have learned minus a few phrases but it's okay

Learning ASL!
Enjoying learning ASL. Some of the graphics are not clear, but most you can figure out between the drawings and the descriptions. Would recommend!

This is NOT ASL
Nowhere on the front cover or in the description here on Amazon does it warn you that you’re receiving a book of SEE (signed exact English) not ASL.I should have read the other reviews (my mistake.). I just saw "Signing Everyday Phrases" and my mind immediately jumped to "I can learn lots of ASL phrases that will ultimately help not just with vocabulary but also grammar."The author explains clearly in the beginning of the book that it's using Signed English (aka, signs borrowed from ASL, but in an English word order, and with added signs that are not used in ASL....). But his reasoning is frankly offensive.Would you say you were learning German if, since jt’s “too hard to learn proper German grammar”, it’s perfectly fine to just grab German words and pluck them directly into English sentences?SEE certainly has a (limited) place. But if you are trying to learn actual ASL, this is going to slow you down and teach you so many incorrect things about the language. And make no mistake - ASL is its own language, with its own grammar, dialects, etc.Honestly, I think it’s awful that the book’s title and description don’t explicitly explain this is SEE and not ASL. Feels like a scam. Can it be useful? I guess so, if you just want to pick up some vocabulary (but if you’re trying to use it with deaf friends, it may be hard for them to follow!.In addition, I didn't find the illustrations and explanations that clear, and often ended up looking up the signs online to make sure I knew how to do them (though again, this is a pretty common problem with trying to learn signs from a book). So I honestly don’t recommend this book. If you’re taking ASL and your teacher likes the book, I would be concerned, frankly, unless they’re recommending with a whole bunch of caveats.
