Yes. It definitely has a slow speed. It has a speed arrow that allows speeds from 1-10. It will give you many speeds to choose from. I love this machine.

Are the gears metal or plastic?

Plastic. There is a picture of the gears (busted) within the ratings. Plastic is quieter but it is cheaper engineering solution and you sacrifice durability. Honestly it will hard to find a retail mixer with metal gears. This is a decent LOW duty/LOW power hand mixer, i.e. cake mix, light batters, single batch of cookies.

Two questions: 1, Where is this mixer manufactured? It used to be in the US. 2 What is the wattage?

The wattage is 108. 120 volts X 0.9 amps= 108 Watts

I keep buying hand mixers and the second beater does not stay in. Does anyone know if they have this problem?

Every mixer I have ever owned, will do that…if you do not put the right beater in first. You just have to look at the markings and the beaters themselves. I hope this is true with the one you have.

If the beaters wobble, get it replaced

When I first received this product (admittedly not from Amazon) I wasn't ver impressed. The right hand beater wobbled a lot which I thought was pretty poor for a hand mixer in this price range and let me feeling very disappointed. I certainly didn't want to use it as it was. Then, after reading the reviews for the same mixer on Amazon, I decided to return it and ask for a replacement and I have to say the replacement was much better.So, if your beaters wobble, don't give up on it. Get it replaced.
