Tenda N Series Home WiFi Router (TENDA-N3)

Got this router today. I was completely blind on the concept of routers so i just ordered this under best guess and hoped for the best.This router supports ACT FIBERNET. There are only one port for the Ethernet cable and another for LAN. One indicator lamp to indicate if the router is on or off. There is no switch. There are no multiple LAN ports. The whole router is extremely simple, you connect it, configure it and leave it be. You can only switch the power off in order to turn it down.The whole router is in the size of a standard sized wallet with the antenna being the lengthiest. My connection is 40Mbps and i get the complete speed in my PC as well as slightly better then 3G speed in my android mobile. I was able to view streaming videos in my mobile with no issues. My condition of usage is within 10ft with a wall in between. I get full coverage 95% of the time. I am yet to check the maximum coverage distance.The configuration is extremely easy. Just type the IP address in the browser or run the installation CD. Once you are in, type admin as password and proceed as instructed in the booklet or there is a PDF of the same in the installation CD. I entered my user name and password while setting up the router so that i don't have to log in to ACT Portal each time. When i switch on the computer the Internet is on.So this router seems simple with no advanced features. A casual user doesn't have to be bothered about advanced features. My ACT customer care advised for D-link 816, that costs around 1800/-. I have no use for some 300mbps router with dual band thing. Where i live, the way i use this Tenda N-150 makes a lot of sense. So as you can see, people who were confused with choosing a router may take a time or two to think about this. If you are in a small to reasonably well laid out home then Tenda N-150 or any other cheaper alternative would do just fine. If you like to have wider range and best coverage then go for 1500/- worth double or triple antenna routers or more.Also the box it has arrived doesn't feel like some cheap Chinese garbage. For this device the quoted price is highly reasonable. I advice as if this router is found best for your needs then go ahead order it from Amazon. Its best then buying in for a local store for a higher price.EDIT - 6/7/2017 : I had this router stay-on for 24 hrs a day and still doing fine. I am using internet on my computer through a small Wifi-adapter linked to this router instead of network cable. Absolutely no reduction in speed! There are no issues of any kind till date, just plug it and forget it. The range seems to be surprising, even a person living in the upper floor connects to my network without much trouble. He gets more than 75% of signal strength which is faster and more stable than a 3G connection.

So I think this can work for around 1000-1200 sq.ft. homes IF placed strategically.Configuration ★★★★★The configuration was a breeze! I had NEVER configured ANY router before and infact I had NEVER even used a WiFi! Still I was able to configure it using the VERY friendly manual and the clean and user-friendly User Interface. I just had to select my connection type (for me it was PPPoE) put the username and password and use the ISP service name. THEN I had to call my ISP so that they can reset my MAC address. IF your connection does NOT work, then call your ISP and ask them to reset the MAC and it will then work! Love the product. I bought it for only Rs 499 in special offer at diwali dhamaka week by amazon.I bought this on 10 October 2014, and again 1 July 2016 because I loved it so much.PROS:- SMALL and Compact, build quality is excellent, a quality long lasting product, its been 5 years and I had NO PROBLEMS at all.- Configuration is easy.- Supports port Forwarding, Firewall, and basic router configuration.- Signal strength is excellent upto 5 meters, after that signal drops but don't worry your internet will still work, only the signal will be weaker and you might get a slower speed. To get best speed, be within 5 meter radius.- The maximum speed of this router is 46 mbps, not 150mbps, it can never reach 150mbps, I have tested this with my super high speed internet connection and the values are correct.- Can connect upto 20 devices, hardly any effect on speed.- If you are ok with 46mbps speed (which is very high, higher than 90% of indian internet anyways) , and your maximum distance from router is 0-10 meters, then go for it blindly as this is the best and cheapest router you can get without compromising on anything.Cons (At this price, these cons are totally ok, hence the 5 star rating)- Has only one WIFI hotspot and only one channel.- Range is very small, only 5-10 meters.- Maximum speed of 46mbps only.- No Battery, so in case electricity goes off, then no internet, so you need a router battery which comes for Rs 2K.
