Michael Morris has provided a compelling and comprehensive description of the breed devised by physician Antonio Martinez who had been impressed by Argentine fighting dogs and set out to breed a mastiff with similar qualities yet possessing a social personality. I loved his health tip (temperature taking and administering medication) discussion as well as the “bark section.” This dog has a startling and thunderous bark, it turns out, that can be an issue. The author’s voice and approach is warm. I liked that he paid more attention to practical matters associated with the breed: Hunting instinct, play fighting, and how to correct dominance behaviour being examples. His photographs and captions are very funny. I would pick up Michael Morris’ book and read it carefully before contemplating acquiring a Dogo Argentino.

This book goes into surprising detail about the Dogo Argentino, for example, retelling the history of its breeding and explaining the legality of ownership in different countries. It's a short, sweet read, but it works best as a reference guide to keep tucked away and refer to frequently during your journey as a potential owner of a Dogo Argentino. Highly recommended for any dog owner.
