Sing a Song of Seasons: A Nature Poem for Each Day of the Year

This is the EXACT same book as I Am the Seed that Grew the Tree
It's an ok book, not spectacular, but not objectionable illustrations or poems. My biggest issue is that except for the covers, this is an IDENTICAL book to I Am the Seed that Grew the Tree by the same author and illustrator. I thought that they had written several of the same style books, and when Amazon had it as a suggested additional purchase, I decided to buy it as well. Neither description at the time (they may change it after seeing my reviews) said that this was a reprinting. They may have been published for different markets, but they are both on Amazon, and Amazon suggests that if you like one you may like the other. So buyer beware, and don't end up with two of the same book. Literally from the inside binding pattern to the poems and illustrations they are identical in every way.

Nursery/KIndergarten School Favorite
I am the director of a small waldorf inspired nursery kindergarten and this book is worth its weight in GOLD! (and it's big, substantial and heavy!) What a delightful anthology...Beautiful pictures, simply and lovingly drawn, with no hint of whimsy/cutesy/cartoony nonsense. We have been reading a poem a day since the book arrived, and many of the daily poems have sparked an entire main lesson, leaving my intended lesson plans for the day in the dust! Many of the poems are simple and short enough for the children to learn off by heart, but there are also plenty of substantially longer poems so the children are challenged at times to focus for longer. Simply perfect!!

Poor printing...missing and repeating pages...buyer beware
I loved this book...until the end of November when I discovered that the printing ended at November 27...skipped to Dec 16-31 then repeated the days Dec 16-31. SO disappointed. I bought it last year and didn't even think to look through EVERY single page to make sure they were all there! UGH! For being such a pricey children's book AND one that sells itself as "a poem a day" you'd think SOMEONE would do a little quality control. Good grief.

A massive collection of poems for the whole year!
Sing a Song of Seasons is a beautiful volume of poetry, one poem for each day of the year. Find poems from both poets from the past as well as poets from today. The book opens with a beautifully illustrated page to pen the owner’s name on a label calling “This book belongs to..”. The poems are all categorized by month. Turn to any month, and find a list of poems (one for each day of the month) followed by a double spread illustrated page matching the mood of the month.Sing a Song of Seasons is GORGEOUS! The sometimes vibrant, sometimes subdued but colorful digital illustrations captures nature in all its beauty. The cold winter months are captured beautifully in subdued grays, blues and shades of white. Spring months show off greens, pink and browns. And so on.. Nature’s creatures, amazing landscapes and the glory of seasons changing are beautifully integrated with poetry.Over 90 poets from Langston Hughes, Lilian Moore, N.M. Bodecker, William Shakespeare and many more are featured in the “Sing a Song of Seasons”. We thoroughly enjoyed reading and hunting for our favorite poems as well as reading through newer poems. This volume offers a variety of poetic styles as well, from simple nature haikus to longer form of poetry from poets such as Emily Dickinson. There is a poem there for you.Sing a Song of Seasons is sure to be a favorite this holiday season. Whether you find yourself buying a copy for your home or as a gift for someone special, this volume is a book that will stay for a very long time.

I'm in love with this book
I have no words to describe how beautiful this book is. It is the size of a coffee table book, with thick, glossy pages and gorgeous full-color illustrations. The poems are incredibly varied (which means you are guaranteed to find some that you love) and suited perfectly to the month they are chosen for.The book is super easy to use as well: each month is prefaced by a table of contents, so you can see the poems for the month and find one of your favorites. Kiddos only want to read poems by Robert Frost? Just use the handy indexes at the back of the book to look up poems by their poet or first line. There is also a bright, pink ribbon sewn into the book so you can save your place.Sing a Song of Seasons is a book I will cherish for years to come. Highly recommended for school libraries, little bookworms, and all adults who love poetry. Do yourself a favor and buy it. You won't regret it.

Paperback totally different book
I ordered the paperback version as it was more in my budget than the hardcover. Expected all the beautiful colors and illustrations. Instead received a thin book all in black and white. The line drawings are nice enough and the poetry must be the same, but I was looking forward to the entire experience of vibrant whimsical images pairing with the words. Edit: Now that I've had the chance to look through, found out that the paperback book is a totally different book.

Huge-mongous and slap full of vivid illustrations!
This is my new favorite morning basket book. The illustrations are vivid and lovely; designed to read a poem a day but I couldn’t stop turning the pages! An excellent choice for the beginning of a great year.

Truly Beautiful
This book far exceeds my expectations. I was looking for something to read with my children during our morning read aloud time in our homeschool. I wanted something with a variety of poetry from silly and fun for the littles and deep and classical for the older ones. This book surprises us every day and the gorgeous pictures give them lots of scope for the imagination as I read. I am excited to have found something we can use year after year. Would recommend this again and again. Every morning basket needs it.

Great selection of poems but clearly edited to have no "God poems"
Even for Christmas day there is no mention of God or Jesus. Clearly selected from a secular perspective. However we are a Christian family and love this book and enjoy reading it year after year and re-encountering the poems.
