The Road to Unafraid: How the Army's Top Ranger Faced Fear and Found Courage through Review: This is a great read. - What a gripping story. Very well written. Review: The road to success - I bought this book because of my interest in learning more about the life of a military chaplain. The theme of a battle-hardened Ranger becoming a chaplain was impossible to pass up. I'm glad to say that I have no regrets in reading "The Road to Unafraid." Army Chaplain Jeff Struecker's story upholds an impressive array of qualities of a man called to serve God and country and features many campaigns and of the acts of valor of his fellow Rangers. Each story is captivating. The minute by minute on the ground in Mogadishu is riveting. What makes this book particularly valuable to me is to see how a man given a calling from God can be challenged by a multitude of obstacles, bureacratic roadblocks, fear of financial failure and stigmas attached entering professional ministry and yet achieve his objectives. Chaplain Jeff writes indepth about his life's path toward receiving God's calling, his unrelenting pursuit, and the doubts he is confronted at each step of the way. An ordinary man with an ordinary spouse would be inclined to fall back at any of these challenges and yet we can see how God takes steps towards Jeff as Jeff takes a step towards Him. Road to Unafraid goes the extra mile to illustrate how vision, skill, courage to act, determination and consideration of family are critical to successful life. Although not writing about his experiences doing research in seminary does not detract from his story at all (perhaps material for another book), I would be interested to know of some of the insights of a decorated, ground-pounding combat veteran going through the rigors and disciplines of seminary. I really enjoyed this book, I found it well written, easy to read, and compelling.

Fantastic Read
The Road to Unafraid highlights the challenges of having faith as a service member. The author uses his personal experience to explain how his faith pushed him forward in unfortunate times and when he had little direction. Highly recommend the book to veterans, service members, and families!

A Soldier's Faith
I recently read Chaplain Jeff Struecker's story in a sitting and felt it was truly a story from the heart. It includes great personal retrospectives on those bleary dog-days in Mogadishu we all dreaded, tough days at Benning in Ranger training, and the even tougher transition from soldier to Chaplain. It wasn't that his account of the BlackHawk down sequence that moved me however, it was the simple desire to follow his faith that impressed me most. As our chaplaincy needs even more chaplains to meet the demands of current and future operations, this story reflects how tough it is to actually become a Military Chaplain and how valuable a ministry they provide. Chaplain Jeff's story of faith is a wonderful and inspiring read of how a soldier navigated the challenges of youth, family, military life and combat, and the arduous road to serving as a chaplain. If you want glimpses of how it is done read this book. I would have liked it to include more on his life as a chaplain now. I was impressed with his sincerity and honest faith. An easy read that would make a great gift for soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.

Fantastic!
This book is heart-gripping and moving! It carries you through that dark day in Somalia on Black Hawk Down. Reading it you can feel as if you're right there in the middle of the action! The author has a nice way of making readers feel as if he's talking directly to them. He weaves together his personal story of how he became a Ranger, with the Black Hawk Down moment, a tidbit of a previous mission he was on, and the aftermath of that day in Somalia for him and other Rangers. His Christian testimony is like a breath of fresh air! It is very uplifting to read how the Lord worked in His life and got him through unimaginable situations! I figuratively bit my fingernails, held my breath, grit my teeth, laughed, and wiped a tear as I read this great book that tells a tale of an ordinary person with the natural struggles of fears and worries, who was transformed by God, carried through warfare, and led to be an example for others and trust God both overseas or at home with the usual trials of life.

This is an awesome and inspirational true story!
I loved this book! " The Road to Unafraid" is a real page turner and so profoundly inspirational. One of the greatest takeaways from this book is the fact that God meets us just where we are and then takes us closer to Him and truly is that person who walks with us through the valleys of the shadow of death. It would be awesome if every military person would read this!
