Is the smaller side designed to fit on a slant?

I shimmed the smaller side since the window doesn't close evenly. You need to be level for the latch to work properly. But it is a good latch for a double hung wood window.

can these be used with wood sashes, or only vinyl?

Absolutely. I've used them exclusively on wood windows for my last two houses.

I have one large window with two Vertical sliding windows so is there a left and right lock? So when locked it points in same direction?

Will these fit oem champion windows that are 20 years old or more? i am unable to measure the locks currently to see if a "match".

There are no cross reference for manufactures on this item. Measure the center to center of the mounting holes and the backset from the edge of the window to the mounting holes. Compare those dimensions to the line drawing at the top of web page.
