The Divining Hand: The 500 year-old Mystery of Dowsing

Wow!!! What a great book! I rarely write book reviews, but this one must be shared. As other reviewers have pointed out, this is not a "how to" book on dowsing at all. But it certainly covers the history of dowsing in an interesting, compelling and fascinating way. I challenge all doubters to read this book from end to end and then still be able to maintain their original doubts. It is so well written, so well researched, that it just blew me away. I was really sorry when it ended. Left me wanting more. Much more. So utterly interesting!It also made me want to start dowsing myself. I had been toying with the idea for a long time now and had even tinkered with actually doing it. But, in order to become a good, reliable dowser takes lots of practice. Which, so far, I have not yet put in. But, after reading this book, there is now an urgency to that idea and I have started actually doing it.I wish this book were available on Kindle. I definitely want to re-read it. Which is something I rarely do, except for studying purposes. But, this book is not about studying. Motivating, in my case, perhaps. But not studying.

First-rate exposition on all aspects of Dowsing. This is a book recommended by the late great Walt Woods, Dowser Extrodinaire. Anyone who doubts dowsing should read this. The largest well-drilling corporation in California used it and they GUARANTEED WELLS OR THEY'D EAT THE DRILLING COST - NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. Their record is over 3000 successful wells drilled.......even in mountain foothills where water is hard to locate.As for the vermin like "The Amazing Randi" and ilk; they and their ludicrous arguments are blown right out of the water by this book and by the astounding record of Walt Woods prior to his demise. This book tells you HOW Dowsing "works", it does not tell you how to dowse. To learn HOW, contact the American Society of Dowsers and The Holistic Intuition Society - both have books and DVD's featuring the great Walt Woods. Watch and read, and you'll be both pleasantly shocked AND enlightened.

Though Christopher has left this life, his book is wonderful. If one reads this book cover to cover, the reality of the 'sixth sense' available to everyone who 'listens' will become apparent.The stories and theory are brilliant. But the red-necks and skeptics will never be convinced. They are only ever convinced of beer, big tits and their football team/political party.Overall, an excellent book. As was his Secret Life of Plants and Secrets of the Soil. These are a must read for the lovers of the Multiverse.

FASCINATING book on the art of dowsing! A gift from my husband. Have read it cover-to-cover since discovering I have the gift for dowsing. Didn't realize this author also wrote another FAVORITE book in my library 'The Secret Life of Plants' that I read in my early 20s, forty years ago. Plan to connect with a local dowsing group to learn more about practical applications like finding water (which my maternal great-grandfather did) and for medical health support, a deep interest of mine. This is a very good history on what dousing is and how it works. It does a very good job of covering the history of it oft misunderstood technique and system for finding water, gold, oil or just your lost cell phone. :-)Dousing is often the first technique I teach new energy students to prove to them almost everyone can do such things. It is simple and easy to teach.

There is much more to this book than I at first suspected. It has lots of anecdotes and historical notes. Interesting read but a bit longer than I had expected.

Great, great information, everyone that likes dowsing and beginners should read this book. I am a dowser and had many friends think dowsing is a silly thing people make up, this book had will change their mind. I keep the box with me to share, it makes great conversation as well.

The author did a very throurough job putting together many documented data, cases, studies, personalities and mostly applications of this bizarre phenomenon called dowsing. It's a nice written book with plenty of photos and charts showing both historic and practical ways dowsing pratitioners have been using this kind of ability to find many things, living and non living ones. Excelent.
