Thermacell MR-GJ Portable Mosquito Repeller, Pink (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

We do a lot of camping. My wife was bugging me (pun intended) for her own, as I already had one. Just to make the point that it truly was just hers, I got this pink one. She loves it. We camp in the desert of Utah, and in the spring you get cedar gnats. Those things are awful, and leave some pretty nasty bites behind. Insect repellent has minimal effect. We have only found two things that work, and ideally pair them together. These thermacells, an the burnable insect coils. They are both based on the same ingredient, so no surprise there. I think the ThermaCells do a better job of delivering it.The dock of one star is for the cost of the refills. Those cartridges are not cheap, and the pads last way longer than the cartridge. That is why we buy the coils at Walmart (4 for 97 cents), and use these for when they get bad. I just can't afford to run these all the time!

Worth it's weight in gold w/o question and highly recommend this system.

I use this on my deck in the spring, summer, and fall and it does keep the mosquitos away. The biggest reason that I took off a star is because of the amount of time that it takes for it to work (about 15-20 minutes), the amount of time the blue bug away tiles last (4 hours), and the fact that the wind can really make it ineffective. None of those things are deal breakers at all...just things I wish I would have known prior to purchase.

Used when I was in Glacier NP this summer, seemed to keep mosquitos away but doesn’t have a big radius for example: sitting at a picnic table with it placed on top kept mosquitos away but they all moved down to bite our legs & ankles. Will buy the strap to carry on my pack for hikes and see how that works to keep them from bugging me next summer.

i have 2 of these a pink real tree one for my wife and the regular real tree one for my self and they work great i was totally suprised how good they work. my mother came down for a visit from up by the minnisota line and she was pretty scepticable bout them when i showed them to her so one evening we were on the deck the other nite and the sceets and bugs were bad and i sat mine beside her and the rest of the story is now she ownes one also. great product worth every dollar. will be buying a third one any day now because my mother ended up with mine!

I turned this thing on and set it on my deck. I came out about 10min later to sit in my hot tub and had a pleasant experience with no mosquitos. I got out and turned it off so it would cool before taking it inside. I then proceeded to close the hot tub, add chemicals, and dry off. By the time I was done, I was dealing with mosquitos. So it seems to be really effective.

I was so anxious to use this device when I got it because I have mosquito in the backyard during summer. Since the mosquito killing laser hasn't been widely available yet, anything can help would help. I even bought a carrying case.However, I tested it in the backyard. To my disappointment, mosquito have no problems whatsoever flying next to this device, even after the device has been turned on for a while. Either this doesn't work or I have super mosquito in the backyard.Also, they designed the switch with metal (connected to fuel) touching cheap plastic (The actual on/off dail). Soon the plastic would be worn out. The unit would be inoperable because you can't turn it on anymore. It couldn't be fixed. I wrote a letter to the warranty department and they did not respond.Gave 2 stars because you can use it as a hand warmer in the winter, while the switch still work.

its one of those products you can say "it works!"Its a product that you have to say "well, it didn't not work"I was not bit by mosquitos while using them so there for they worked. I bought 2 of them. the pads last under 4 hours and the butane under 12. It could get rather expensive. I haven't seen a place to buy the OEM pads without having to buy the butane.BUY the pink one, its cheaper!
