Great design and construction
I'm stuck with an older electric-coil range, so it's always a challenge for me to find a pot that's both nonstick and does a good job of evening out the burner heat.Stainless steel pots with thick aluminum or copper disks in a laminated base do a great job on evening out the heat, but can suffer sticking problems if used to brown meat or simmer tomato sauce. This Berndes saute pan is the best of both worlds with its thick cast aluminum alloy construction and super-high-quality bonded nonstick surface on the inside. It works great on my electric burners and is easily hand washed in the sink. Here's my Dad's homemade chili recipe that works great in the pan:- Brown 1lb frozen 93% lean ground beef in sauté pan over medium high heat. Constantly use spatula to scrape off thin browned layers from outside of frozen hunk until hunk is fully thawed and browned; set aside beef.- Peel a large onion, cut in half along its axis and slice it into 1cm-wide strips. Saute in pan in 1 tbsp oil over medium heat until starting to become translucent.- Add 6oz can tomato paste and cook for a few minutes.- Add 28oz can peeled whole plum tomatoes, 14.5oz can crushed tomatoes, and reserved browned beef. Also add spices: 3 tsp Ancho chile powder, 1/2 tsp Chipotle chile powder, 2 tsp table salt, 1/2 tsp ground pepper. Mix well and simmer about 20 minutes.- Add 2 15-16oz cans drained dark red kidney beans and simmer for another 30 minutes or longer.- Adjust seasoning to taste and serve!

Great pan, but feel used...
Really nice pan, a lot heavier than the versions that constantly warp from other companies. The pan itself, I would give 5 stars, but the package came to me clearly already used or opened by others. Slight scratching on the pan itself and the top lid handle was actually screwed on upside down. Why anyone would screw on a handle to the underside of the lid, I have no idea. But I assume someone sent it back as defective then they resold it to me. After correcting the problem with a phillips screwdriver, I really do like the product.

Finally Ditched The Cephalon!!
This is my favorite pan. I had Cephalon, which caused food to stick. I've not been happy with them for years.I tried Scan Pan which is not deep enough for the cost and started loosing it's finish after a few uses. I hand wash all my pans so the problem is the pans not how I was them.. I finally started looking online for a good pan, and saw the name Berndes in a forum. I immediately researched this pan. This pan is non stick, has a lid, has a flat bottom. It is like an iron skillet, but much much better. It's handle doesn't get hot. It is deep and makes frying anything a breeze. I use this pan for everything from Rice A Roni (try that in a Cephalon pan!!! sticks like crazy) to sauteing in water, to sauteing in oil, to frying. I'm so happy with this pan, I bought a second of the same pan. Then I bought a large sauce pan then I bought a larger Dutch oven. I got rid of most of the Cephalon, by the way. They are worthless compared to this pan.

Yay berndes. 👎 boo amazon
Purchased as a returned "like new" item. I did not get the dutch oven as advertised...but a frying pan with lid. The amazon return center/warehouse could be a bit more mindful of the items they are reselling. However, For the low price of less than $50, l will just keep it. But this frying pan has the plastic handle and can not be used in the oven, like a dutch oven. Berndes is always quality. Just stashing this for a gift. I have the wooden handle tradition style so the plastic handle isn't impressing me. Heavy duty and always easy to clean.

BEWARE HOT!!
I've waited a couple months to use the pan before reviewing so here is my opinion. First, the picture is not the pan that was send....It is more of a saute scooped side skillet, which is fine...I like it. I had this brand before and loved the quality of it so it is why I reordered another one. However, I can only give it 3 stars because they dropped the ball on a couple things: there is an 'extra' small handle on this 13" skillet opposite of the large handle and it gets HOT!!!! The small handle is a bonus when carrying and pouring from the skillet but BEWARE.....do not grab with bare hands. It took me at least 3 times of burning my fingers before I've finally remembered to grab a pot holder first. My previous skillet (different brand) had this small handle as well but it was cover with a silicone covering that did not get hot. Also, the lid knob on top gets hot as well...why did they not cover these with some sort of heat resistant product is a puzzle to me. So if you can remember to keep pot holders real close and not touch these two things you will be ok. I truly do love the skillets quality except for these two unpleasant features. I also have the 11" skillet which is what is pictured, and love it as well. It does not have the second smaller handle but same with the knob on lid getting HOT! If they would improve these two features, they would by far be the bestest of the best!!!!

The best nonstick I have ever used!
After years of teflon and nonstick pans that aren't really "nonstick," I found Berndes....I had previously purchased and returned, not one, but two Calphalon sets of nonstick pots and pans because after a few uses, the bottoms appeared to be losing the coating and were discoloring. And they were not really "nonstick." I purchased the Berndes after Mary McDougall, cookbook author and queen of low fat cooking, told me about this fabulous saute pan that is truly nonstick. She told me that I would love it and she was right. I truly love it and it just wipes clean or sometimes needs just a little soak in warm water and then it wipes clean. I have yet to scrub or use dish detergent on it at all. I didn't even need to pre-oil it. I truly can cook without fats not and I am delighted.
