It includes six of his most essential works — The House of the Dead & The Gambler, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Notes from Underground, Devils, and The Karamazov Brothers — each in matching, minimalist trade paperback editions. Print & Binding For the price, the paper quality is surprisingly decent — not premium cream stock, but not see-through either. The text is comfortably sized and well-spaced, which makes a huge difference for longer reading sessions (especially with Dostoevsky’s dense prose). The bindings are glued but flexible enough that you can open them wide without cracking the spine immediately, though I’d still avoid folding them back. Translation & Readability The Wordsworth editions typically use public domain translations. They’re serviceable and readable but lack some of the nuance you get from modern translators like Pevear & Volokhonsky or Garnett revisions. If you’re reading purely for literary depth and academic analysis, you might want alternate editions. But if you’re here to experience Dostoevsky’s stories without breaking the bank, these work just fine. Content Selection This set covers both his psychological heavyweights (Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov) and his more compact, philosophical works (Notes from Underground). It’s a great balance for anyone who wants the full Dostoevsky experience — moral dilemmas, psychological tension, and sharp social commentary. Pros: • Six major works in one affordable set • Consistent, clean design for shelf appeal • Decent print quality for the price • Great for newcomers or as a backup reading set Cons: • Uses older public domain translations • Not the most durable covers for heavy annotation or commuting Final Verdict: If you’re curious about Dostoevsky and want a cohesive, budget-friendly collection to start with, this set delivers. For collectors or those who want the “definitive” translations, pair it with one or two modern editions of your favorite titles for comparison. Review: Good deal - Excellent deal! Nothing beats paperback.

Quality is iffy but overall a nice purchase.
Book set is very nice and the red bow wrapped around everything is a great touch. My only issue(s) with this purchase is the condition in which it came to me. Several of the book pages look very dirty and have dark markings on them. The corner of one of the books on the end are damaged. And some of the pages on one particular book of the set are in poor condition. Overall, I’ll still keep the set, but it’s annoying to give someone a gift that looks like this.
