This VCR is a junk and fraud.
No, sadly it does not meet my spectations, I plug it and it did not play the video, I just got a distorted noise and no image. I knew that it is a used equipment, then it does not have warranty. I am Electronic Engineer, so I open it and found that, Supply Side Loading Arm was extended and loose, then I took apart the Loading Assembly and found that, the Supply Side Loading Gear was broken (original Sony Part 3-736-147-01). Also, If the tape is loaded properly, it get damaged because the Supply Loading Arm is not align and make a notch in the tape, bisides the tracking could not be adjusted and the image is shown in four horizontal bars.I almost sure that, the vendor knew this, because, the problem was present, since the first time that, I loaded a tape and they ofered it like, it work perfect, because they commented that, in their web page, even worst they said there that, they have verified the good performance of the equipment. This VCR is a fraud, the only part that, seems to work fine is the Remote Control but I paid $299.99 for a VCR Remote Control and a Junk VCR.

Unit failed after playing a 2nd tape
This unit failed after playing a 2nd tape. The tape could not be ejected. I shipped it to a repair facility where they did $106 worth of repair labor (the parts were salvaged from another identical deck of mine). It was very disappointing to pay $240.99 and then have the unit fail within 2 hours. The remote control that was shipped with the unit doesn't work because it's for a different model.I've had two of these models for 14 years and they have been very reliable, robust machines that are used often in my video transfer business.

VHS and SVHS are still relevant.
The one star reviewers appear to be fake people, most have only 1 review ever or are generic. Don't listen to them, this is *THE BEST* home theater VCR ever produced, for playing VHS or SVHS tapes. It also has an excellent comb filter which you can use with external inputs such as a Laserdisc player or a video game which does not support component or S-Video. Picture quality is excellent, and it can be better than DVD especially in high-motion scenes or pictures with high dynamic areas. With certain media only available on VHS even to this day, as well as the many home movies and archival recordings lots of us still have tucked away, many people find it worthwhile to own a VCR even in this current year. As with high grade Laserdisc players the top-grade SVHS VCRs are getting more expensive. I'm happy I own mine even though I rarely use it to actually play tapes.

The Packaging was terrible. VCR and remote control did not work
The Packaging was terrible. VCR and remote control did not work. My cassette wouldn't play, and it kept getting hung up in the VCR. It took me a long time to get it out, because it kept making this loud noise when I press the eject button on the VCR. It almost ruin my cassette. The remote control was useless.

A Classic Top Of The Line S-VHS Deck
I've had one of these VCRs since 1997, and it continues to work magnificently. Granted, even S-VHS tape is inferior to a good digital video recording, but the ease of use of this deck, coupled with it's battleship like construction, brings me to use it still. If you can find a solid one, or two, so that you can dub, then you will be as happy as this technology can help you be. Since I first wrote this review, I got a second 1000 and using both to dub is wonderfully easy. The remote offers three remote frequencies, so that you using one won't activate the other.
