The best!
This hot chocolate was bought before a trip to Mexico when I was searching for products to try with our kids as a surprise ahead of our holiday. This hot chocolate is so lovely, with the spices making it so much better than standard hot choc! Some might say it's a faff to make (the old fashioned stirring into milk on the hob method) but you have to put a bit of work in the get the rewards sometimes! These are individually wrapped "cakes" of spiced chocolate that make several mugs per "cake", or you can break off a segment for a single serving.

Absolutely delicious
This chocolate is absolutely amazing. It became an instant favourite in our house and we save it for special occasions as it’s so hard to come by. The flavours are so rich and it’s a pleasure to make. The process is very worth the wait.

Nostalgia aint what it used to be...
When I was at university (in the 90s!) I had a Mexican friend who used to make me this hot chocolate. In fact he even gave me some when I left. For the last 25+ years no hot chocolate has ever really lived up to this in terms of taste - or the experience of preparing it (literally melting big lumps of chocolate into milk). So I decided it was time to revisit the stuff and see if it was as good as I remembered. And the answer is... almost. I'm pretty convinced that company and location are the deciding factor in how good any drink tastes. That being said, it is still great fun to make and a great taste. I've only docked a star because each disk of chocolate only makes 2 mugs - so it works out as around £1 a mug - which probably makes it an experiment I won't be repeating...

Not nearly as good as expected
I had a bit of a hope for this one, since it's not cheap and the reviews are very positive on average, but honestly, it didn’t hit the mark. To me the pack smells like cinnamon spiced dog food - not exactly appetizing. The taste wasn’t awful, but it was way too sweet. To be fair, I’m more of a dark chocolate fan (75% it the *sweet* spot, haha, get it? 🤦♂️), so someone with a preference for milk chocolate might enjoy it much more than I did. I tried steaming 250ml of milk with a quarter of a puck, but it melted only halfway, and I had to stir it a lot to get it to mix. Next time, I might grind the puck first to save the hassle, and also use 1.5 quarters, since it was too thin for my liking. Take it as you will, but on average I’ve had much better hot chocolate from coffee vending machines.

Excellent product, rediscovered by chance (in Europe), reminding us of when we used to drink it in Mexico in the '80s. It's a shame the shipping cost doubles its original price !

It took a couple of tries to get used to, but now I really enjoy it. It takes awhile to make but is a little quicker than homemade hot cocoa made with cocoa powder, etc. No measuring, just plop 1/4 of a block in milk for one serving, or a whole block for 4 servings. I break it up into fours if making four servings so that it melts faster. Definitely cook as instructed. It needs medium heat in order to dissolve properly.

We’ve been using Nestle Abuelita Mexican Chocolate to help boost my wife’s milk supply, and it’s been great! She enjoys the rich, comforting flavor, and it’s an easy and tasty way to support lactation. The chocolate melts easily, making a warm, soothing drink any time of day. Plus, it’s something she actually looks forward to drinking, which makes it a win-win for both flavor and function!
