I’d like to preface this review by giving a little background of myself. Growing up, I was baptized as a baby, went to Sunday school, learned the basic stories that were ‘kid friendly’, got confirmed in the Lutheran Church as a teen, etc. Like everyone else, I celebrated Christmas and Easter and while I knew the backstory of each I don’t believe I really felt/understood the true meaning of it all. I have always been an avid reader but have always found reading the Bible extremely difficult. Back then, I wasn’t made aware of the different translations and most likely was trying to decipher the King James Version. Ultimately, I gave up and didn’t look back. Until now. Fast forward 30+ years. I’ve got a wife and 3 kids of my own. From a faith standpoint, nothing really changed in all that time. My experience with that extremely difficult to read Bible from my youth kept me from picking up another one and I never really went to Church outside the ‘big’ holidays. My brother-in-law is deeply religious and has been trying to get me back to church and reading the Word of God for years. I’m not sure what finally did it but I decided to give it a chance. Talking with him opened my eyes to the various translations and he agreed that some are very difficult to understand without help. He recommended the NLV to me to get started. This Bible was one of the first hits that came up on Amazon. Being skeptical of it just being a marketing ploy for ‘every man’ I put it in the shopping cart as I continued to search for others. Ultimately, the raving reviews of this book got me to (begrudgingly) order it. I am glad I did! First, this book is beautiful. The faux leather cover and the slight gold trim pages are simply gorgeous. It is a book that I wouldn’t mind throwing in my work bag and ‘low key’ enough that I wouldn’t mind reading it during my lunch hour without it screaming, “BIBLE!!!”. I know, I know. I shouldn’t be ashamed of my faith but at this point I still have reservations about reading an obvious ‘Bible’ in public. But this self conscience reservation is something I plan on working to get over. The very next thing I did when I received this Bible is try to read it. Being cautious and remembering how terrible it was for me as a teen I opened to Genesis..... and I was truly shocked. It reads like it was written in English! Like real English! The type that you would expect most books to be written i. in this century! It was like a light bulb went off. While reading I started noticing the blurbs at the bottom of the pages further explaining the stories; adding much more depth to the passages than I would have gotten on my own. Also the short Biographies and tips throughout the book are great! This Bible is actually enjoyable to read! This is the first Bible that I can truly call ‘my own’. I truly believe this is the turning point where I can start to restore and truly understand my faith instead of just going through the motions of being a ‘Christian’. I hope that this is beginning of getting a true understand of just what that means.

Best bible I’ve purchased. It’s easy to read and gives historical context and focuses on topics Men specifically struggle with. All of us have a habitual sin we struggle with and this has got books, chapters, and verses for all of them. If you are a Man wanting to be a better spiritual leader for your family. The only weakness is the paper that is delicate, but I am 100% satisfied with the Bible, the comments and texts that follows are perfect and very useful interpretation of the Bible
