M.A.S.H: The Complete Series [DVD]

Excellent series... I have always loved these episodes... Even though a little liberal, overall it is a great DVD Set.

This series came out in 1972, and it was an instant and enduring classic, conveying the hypocrisy of hyper-patriotic, flag waving support of war, any war, and a humorous look at human nature. The timing and delivery of the jokes has the appeal of the Marx brothers, but updated and better. I watched every episode I could when growing up, and in reruns, but I was concerned that the standard definition, and the laugh track, might impair my enjoyment of it now, but I ordered it anyway, and I couldn’t have been more wrong!I had learned that the producers of the show fought to keep the laugh track off of the original series airings, but CBS forced them to use it. The series later aired in the U.K. without the laugh-track and was widely acclaimed by critics, so I set about trying to find the version without the laugh track. But, try as I might, I couldn’t find a version that was labeled without the laugh track, so I bought this version anyway, thinking, oh well, I guess I can live with the forced, fake laughter, as I’d always done before.However, when I received the set I quickly learned that it allows playback with and without the laugh track!!!My wife & I have been loving watching it, and even after all those years of watching reruns, it seems like a new experience to watch it now without the bothersome laugh track! It also makes it seem up to date, and applicable to the world we live in today.I highly recommend buying this set! However, if you were a member of the John Birch society, the KKK, the neo-nazis, or if you’re homophobic, racist, or classist, you might be offended.

Works great as it should

I watched this TV show with friends when in college in the early 1970s. I still have good memories of the series, cast, and production. (I was studying TV and Film production at the time it was first being broadcast on network TV. MASH is still a very good show with excellent casting about a MASH surgical unit serving in the Korean War. Warning. This was during and after the later US fighting in Vietnam and elsewhere. Some of the show's humor may lose its luster or just seem ironic to those who didn't live thru that era.

Hey Folks,I got the entire 11 seasons because I was missing Seasons 6 and 8 to 11. I read the concerns about the PLAY ALL feature but I already noticed that on my original disc's (1 to 4) that are well over 12 years old.Some seasons will skip the opening scenes, but not all. So FFWD past the opening music instead of using the NEXT CHAPTER button so you see all of what was produced. If you do not see the opening production credits after the music when you use the next chapter button, you'll need to rewind!Other than that, I cannot detect any other 'negatives' with the set. Full Screens, color and detail gets better after Set 6 and by set 8, it looks better than ever.The packaging is fine! Sure, you may have to remove a season to get to an earlier one, but its only three disc's. Took me 3 seconds.I totally forgot MASH went 11 seasons. So........After looping the first 7, (I lost my 6th season a while back) for the last 'few' years, I'm totally enjoying 5 MORE SEASONS OF MASH that I haven't seen for a long long long time!!!Just having a blast watching the later seasons again and completely enjoying all of the 'ONE-LINERS' that only MASH can and did get away with.
